Black Box Challenge

An international audience of 200 culinary professionals and gourmet connoisseurs gathered for the 10th Anniversary MLA Black Box Challenge held at the Nikko Bali Resort & Spa. Guests mingled and enjoyed canapés and cocktails in the gardens before moving into the Grand Ballroom for what was a colorfully decorated evening. Ten teams representing Bali’s top hotels served their versions of what they found in their surprise box of goodies. They were given just 24 hours to create a four-course menu for 20 guests, each with the same secret ingredients, plus create a theme, table setting and décor to reflect their hotel and cuisine. Stand-out applause goes to the Bulgari Hotel’s executive chef Andrew Skinner and his culinary team, who scooped the Gold Medal; first runner up Four Seasons; and Second Runner Up and host venue Nikko Bali.
