Giddy Up at La Melbourne Cup

Some 50 invited, well-coiffed guests swanned into La Sal Restaurant for the Emirates Melbourne Cup Luncheon to watch the million-dollar horserace that stops the Australian nation. The event was off and racing to an early start with champagne, canapés and Bloody Marys flowing before the international race was telecast live. Fashions on the field followed a gorgeous lunch, where guests such as the Conrad’s Ruth Zuckerman, Villa Alu’s Lewis Norman and Mary Justice Croll dined on a delicious menu of Sardines and Poached Eggs on toast, Stuffed Chicken, Grilled Vegetable Tart and Ginger Cream Caramel with Coconut Chantilly.

Copious amounts of wine flowed as the hyped-up guests vied to win a bevy of sensational prizes for hair and fashion, including villa nights at the Bulgari Hotel, The Ritz-Carlton, Bali Resort & Spa, The Conrad Resort & Spa, The Villas and The Elysian, which were all kindly donated for the bash.

Guests who were racing on the day included the Beaded Boudoir’s Sandra McArthur, The Elysian’s Scarlet Keatinge, The Villas & Prana Spa’s David Kearns and Simon Dunn, Body & Soul’s Melissa Lynton, Mandy Carrington, Anmarie Myers, Bridget Parker and Margaret Barry.

Winners of the day included Lizzie Love for Best Dressed Filly; Claire Quinn and Miriam Becker for Best Chaps, Spurs & Whips; Steve Conway for Best Dressed Stallion; Louise Henry for Best Cup Hat; Mandy Carrington for Raciest Outfit; and Jeremy Cooper as the Biggest Horse’s Ass.
