Funky Little Shack

The bubbly Jackie and Nigel Ames launched a terrific new menu at their Echo Beach House last week in Canggu. A mass of expats, kids, locals and surfers came out to experience one of Bali’s most favorite beachside hangouts and packed the funky little shack out. Complimentary margaritas and beers flowed while the barbecue sizzled with every type of fish, poultry and meat imaginable. Spanish Chef Asir (famed for his creations at La Sal) assisted with the revamp of the massive new menu, which has expanded to include a fantastic organic salad section (try the Beach House Salad with Goat’s Cheese) pastas, fish and seafood (Sesame Tuna Tataki with Soya Mayo is a must!) and a wicked desert menu. The Beach House has also had a wee facelift, moving the internal bar over to one side to allow better beach and sunset viewing and has expanded the rustic outdoor dining area to include several more tables. Best of all is the new Business Centre and offices with internet (In Touch Real Estate has already nabbed one) so you can work, surf, dine and drink at any time of the day. Seen noshing on the scrumptious fare were Dave and Robyn Schonell, Annie and Cookie, Sarah-Jane Scrase, Tom and Sharon Burland, Miriam Becker, Steve Conway, Scarlet Keatinge, Paul Meng and Rod and Michelle Lamb.
