Bordeaux-cious in the Bay

Oh to have been one of the lucky few to be seen sitting by the sea sipping exquisite vintage and noveau Bordeaux wines from the famous 200-year-old Chateau Palmer estate at the Four Seasons Jimbaran Bay this week. Alas, some of the society set were deeply miffed at missing out on a spot for the intimate event that was “deconstructed” from the predictable resort-style wine dinners thanks to the creative-thinking lads at FS. This shabby-chic event had guests casually seated lounge-style on Thai cushions at glamorous low-set tables surrounded by moon lanterns, bonfires, hundreds of candles and a star-studded sky. A gusty start to the event didn’t seem to faze the windswept crowd, who imbibed an aperitif of Domaine Laroche Chablis whilst morsels of duck, prawn and chicken canapés seemed to endlessly circuit. A massive 18-dish tapas-style menu crafted by resort exec chef Klaus Kallweit was served over six courses to complement the incredible Bordeaux wines generously poured in vertical succession of vintages for a flawless tasting experience. A smattering of rain saw guests whisked across to the spacious FS estate to mingle through the final wine and food round in what was a fantastically chic affair. Deconstructed dinners all over town are sure to follow suit. Four Seasons gets Five Stars for this one! Some of the lucky few who got Chateau’d included Eric and Clara Li, Malik and Catherine Benchegeb, Nigel Double, Mary Justice, Andrew McLatchie, Liz and Jeremy Brown, Michael Travers, Ana and Maurice Deroiij, Jack Daniels, Sarah Sellick, Bill and Henny Busch, Charles and Luli Orchard, Angie Vesti, Hervier and Moon Hugues, Chateau Palmer’s Bernard de Laage de Meux, FS GM John O’Sullivan, Benny Raj and newly appointed resort manager Vincent Guirronet.
