The government will allow the import of an additional 500,000 tons of rice in March or April to curb rising prices of the national staple, Vice President Yusuf Kalla said.
“We can start a tender process now and it is expected that the rice will be delivered in March or April,” Kalla said following a meeting with economic ministers on Tuesday.
He said the government wanted the National Logistics Board to continue selling rice below market prices in an effort to stabilize the market.
