Australia Launches Speedy Visa Service
DENPASAR ~ Australia opened a new visa application center here this week, making it faster and easier for applicants to get immigration papers, officials said.
The Australian Visa Application Centre, on Jl. Puputan in Denpasar, marked a significant improvement in visa services, the regional director of immigration at the Australian Embassy in Jakarta, Jim O’Callaghan, said during the launch on Tuesday.
“This centre will encourage more Indonesians to visit Australia, and they will come back with better knowledge of Australia,†he said.
A similar facility opened in Jakarta last November.
Each year, in excess of 60,000 visas are issued to Indonesians wishing to travel to Australia, the top destination for Indonesians studying abroad, as well as for business and leisure, the Jakarta embassy said in a statement.
In Bali, the number of visas issued annually is around 5,000.
In addition to the center, information on visa services, as well as downloadable application forms, is available at www.vfs-au-id.com.
Nearly all those who apply for visas to Australia get the green light for their trip, according to O’Callaghan.
“Ninety-seven percent of all visa applications are successful,†he said.
“We have one of the fastest turnaround times for granting visas in the world.â€
The average time it takes to process a visa is five days, an official at the new center told The Bali Times, adding that the total cost of business and tourist visas was Rp670,000 (US$73.86) and that visit periods included three and six months and a year. (BT/RD)
The new visa center is open from 8:30am to 1:30pm, Monday to Friday and can be reached at 264958.Filed under: The Island
