What can be done to improve Bali’s image?
Every region has its own potential, and by paying more attention to its development – in terms of agriculture, tourism and so on – we can make Bali a better place.
Are you satisfied with the current level of security?
Yes, I am. There are a lot of pecalang (traditional security guards) around, as well as other security officers. I’m not happy with what the government is doing in other areas, though, especially concerning corruption.
Is the central government doing enough to improve Indonesia?
Not at all. All they do is make rules that benefit themselves. When the price of petrol went up, so did government salaries.
What are the challenges that lie ahead, then?
There’s too much poverty in this country, and far too many accidents. Nothing is being done about either, which makes people very unhappy.
Where’s the hottest spot in Bali right now?
I think it’s places away from the beaches, like Ubud, Payangan and Kintamani. These are developing places with lots to offer. (BT/AS)
