Kedonganan Fish Market to Be Relocated
JIMBARAN ~ The authorities in Kedonganan village are planning to relocate Kedonganan Fish Market to prevent waste being disposed into the sea and create a more hygienic market, an official said.
Head of Segara Kedonganan Cooperative I Nyoman Sudarta said the relocation was part of a Jimbaran Beach restoration program proposed by the villagers, cooperative and local officials.
“The program also includes building a new fish market with better waste organization,†Sudarta said on Tuesday, adding that the new market would start operating in early 2008.
The budget for the project was Rp1 billion (US$110,210), financed entirely by the villagers, he said.
“Local sellers will be charged Rp1.9 million per year. Sellers from outside Kedonganan will be charged Rp3 million per year.
“Currently there are 50 sellers in the market and 80 percent of them are from outside the village,†he said.Filed under: The Island
