Airport Tax Rises 50% for Int’l Passengers
TUBAN ~ The Ministry of Transport has announced a 50-percent passenger service charge increase for international flights at Ngurah Rai International Airport, an official told The Bali Times.
Public relation officer of PT Angkasa Pura 1, the operating company of the airport, Akhmad Munir, said that starting from November 1, 2007, the international passenger service charge is Rp150,000 (US$16.50), from Rp100,000 per passenger previously.
Munir said that nine other airports – in Makassar, Balikpapan, Biak, Manado, Yogyakarta, Solo, Semarang, Lombok and Ambon – had also raised their international service charge, from Rp75,000 to Rp100,000. Meanwhile, Kupang airport has increased its international departure tax from Rp50,000 to Rp70,000.
The increase is because of higher costs of handling passengers and providing services at Bali airport, said Munir.
“We proposed the increase to the government a year ago, of more than 50 percent. Our costs at Ngurah Rai are higher than Rp100,000 (per passenger). After a series of studies and evaluations, the government decided to apply this increase from November 1,†he said.
A decision on an increase in domestic departure tax has not been made.
“For domestic passengers, the cost per unit is Rp56,000. But we haven’t decided whether we are going to increase the charge from Rp50,000. We are studying that possibility.â€
