Monster Factory

Monster Factory: Workers make giant ogoh-ogoh effigies ahead of Nyepi on March 7, when on the eve of the Hindu Day of Silence, the fearsome-looking creatures will be raucously paraded through towns and villages across Bali, to ward off evil demons. Most banjars (communities) make their own ogoh-ogoh, but some opt to forego the labor-intensive task and instead buy them. At this temporary factory in Kuta district, ogoh-ogoh were selling this week for between Rp1 million (US$109) and Rp17 million.
