Musician from island of Sumba

From the perspective of Rika Rambadeta, 30, a musician from the island of Sumba

What are we here for?

To understand this world and all that’s in it, like the flora and fauna that God has given us.

Do you believe in the “Big Bang” theory that the circa-13.7-billion-year-old universe and all that’s in it was created by a massive explosion of enormously dense matter at what may have been the beginning of time?

In my opinion, nature existed before the Big Bang. When the Big Bang did occur, all it did was to change nature and its components.

If there is a God, where is He?

God is in my heart, every time I have to make a decision. He is around me for many situations and this convinces me of the greatness of God.

Is there a mystery to life?

Of course. The lucky person is the one who is successful in finding the answer to the mystery of life. If someone has the urge to look for the mystery of life and if they are sensitive to life around, they will definitely find it. And after doing so, they will be able to handle all problems in this world

Do you think we are alone in the universe?

There is a theory that there may be parallel universes with exact copies of us — doppelgangers — doing exactly the same thing as us right now. What do you think about that?

I don’t know.

What do you think happens when people die?

They are born into a new world that is in the realms of a spiritual dimension.

Where is your soul and what is it?

My soul is an element in the spiritual world where space and time ceases to exist. It rests there awaiting the Day of Judgment, when it will be united with God.

Science says that all matter and energy cannot be created nor destroyed. Therefore, will our energy, in the form of our soul, live on for infinity?

Yes, because the spirit is God’s breath. It lives forever.

Do we have any control over our lives, or is everything already mapped out, as in predefined fate?

Our destiny or fate is not completely preordained. The basic map is in our lives. But like a tree that grows from a seed, whose branches spread out towards the sky, we have been given a fundamental choice to live the life we choose.

Some people believe that because we are made from the same matter as the universe – carbon, and other elements, like nitrogen – anything we ask it will be attracted to us, popularized recently in the movie The Secret. What’s your view?

If humans are made from these elements, surely human cloning will be possible.

Are we being observed?

Yes, God observes us.

If there is a God, why does he allow such colossal suffering of people on Earth, either through war, disease or natural disasters?

God gives freedom to mankind, in controlling the plants and animals for their sustenance. If calamities or hardships occur and this causes human suffering, it is entirely of our making and therefore we should not blame God.
