Truckers Get Sex for Soya

BUENOS AIRES ~ An Argentine mayor has complained that truckers are stopping outside his town and paying for sex at illegal brothels with sacks of soya beans.

Brothels are outlawed in Argentina, but thrive in the country’s interior masked as bars, commonly known as “whiskerias.”

“We have this social and sanitary problem” on the road leading out of town, said Norberto Bergami, mayor of General Roca, a town of some 2,600 located 420 kilometers north of Buenos Aires. “We all know that the truckers stop and pay with loads of soya.”

Teen Elected Mayor of City

WASHINGTON ~ It’s certainly a good start: a 19-year-old political science student who dreams of becoming US president was elected mayor of Muskogee, Oklahoma, beating a 70-year-old for the job, the city hall announced Thursday.

John Tyler Hammons, a first-year student at the University of Oklahoma, won the job to lead the city of 40,000 with 70 percent of the vote over a former mayor. The incumbent did not take part in the race.

“The campaign was great, it was fun and we won the trust of the people,” Hammons said. “I want an open government. I don’t have the monopoly on good ideas,” he said.

Ageing Aussies Strip in Protest

MELBOURNE ~ Protesting pensioners brought traffic to a stand still in Australia’s second largest city when some stripped to demand more money from the government.

The scantily-clad seniors braved the autumn weather in a 150-strong protest against this week’s federal budget, which offered them little despite a AUS$21.7 billion (US$20 billion) surplus.

Most at the “Fair Go for Pensioners” rally at the intersection of two major streets in downtown Melbourne last Friday kept their clothes on, but several threw convention to the wind and stripped to their underwear.
