From the perspective of Faturrachman, 24, a cellphone dealer from Denpasar What are we here for?
To continue our parents’ bloodlines and to make future generations.

Do you believe in the Big Bang theory that the now circa-13.7-billion-yar-old universe and all that’s in it was created by a massive explosion of enormously dense matter at what may have been the beginning of time?
No, I don’t believe it. The beginning of the time is when God created the Universe.

If there is a God, where is He?
In my heart, God is everywhere.

Is there a mystery to life?
Yes, for example, we don’t know what happens after we die, or where we will go. In everyday life, there are always unusual things we can’t explain.

Do you think we are alone in the Universe?
There are other creatures in this Universe. We can’t see them, and perhaps we just haven’t found the means to see them yet.

There is a theory that there may be parallel universes with exact copies of us — doppelgangers  —doing exactly the same thing as us right now. What do you think about that?
I don’t know. But if it is God’s will, then there is a parallel universe the same with ours.

What do you think happens when people die?
That is one of the mysteries of life. People say they will go to heaven or hell after we die. I think when I die, I will meet God and He will tell me what I will do next.

Where is your soul and what is it?
My soul is my being; it’s in my body.

Science says that all matter and energy cannot be created nor destroyed. Therefore, will our energy, in the form of our soul, live on for infinity?
I do think that my energy will live for infinity.

Do you know your place in this Universe?
In this Universe, I am the same as anybody else. There is no difference between one person and another. We are all human beings, a species that can think. The difference can be felt only in our daily reality. But as a whole, there is no difference.
Do we have any control over our lives or has everything already been mapped out since birth, predetermined, and fate?
We don’t have any control; it’s our minds that tell us we have control over our lives. God has written the journey of our life in His book. Everything is already mapped out.

Some people believe that because we are made from the same matter as the universe – carbon, and other elements, like nitrogen – anything we ask it will be attracted to us, popularized recently in the movie The Secret. What’s your view?
That seems funny to me. Yes, my body is formed from the same materials, but I never think that anything I ask for will be attracted to me.

Are we being observed?
Yes. By the eyes of God.

If there is a God, why does he allow such colossal suffering of people on Earth, either through war, disease or natural disasters?
They all are the acts of people. People are careless and unappreciative in many ways. If people paid more attention to the consequences of their actions, the suffering of people could be decreased. We are often too busy to think about the impact our lives and actions will have in the future, say 20 years from now.
