Girl Kidnapped in Denpasar, Found in Gianyar

DENPASAR ~ A 6-and-a-half-year-old girl from Denpasar was kidnapped on Sunday while playing outside with friends but was found later the same day in Gianyar, police said.

Her parents reported the girl, Imelda, missing to South Denpasar Police when she didn’t return home from playing outside with friends around 10am.

At 3.30pm officers from Sukawati Police said a truck diver brought a little girl to the police station, saying that a shopkeeper in Blahbatuh had asked him to deliver the girl to the police station.

Sukawati Police chief Dewa Made Adnyana said Imelda had gone with her kidnapper to a nearby market after he offered her Rp6,000.

At Jl. IB Mantra, the kidnapper allegedly asked the shopkeeper to watch Imelda, but she became suspicious when he failed to return to collect the girl.

“We immediately coordinated with South Denpasar Police, because Imelda told us that she lived on Jl. Penjaringan, South Denpasar,” Adnyana said.

Imelda’s mother, Sarantika Sari, was at South Denpasar Police reporting her daughter as missing when the call came from Sukawati about the girl.

Police were investigating the case and trying to identify the kidnapper.
