From the perspective of Jojo, 20, from Surabaya

What are we here for?

I think we are here to realize our dreams. I was born to have a family, a wife, to go abroad and discover the world.

Do you believe in the Bing Bang theory that the now circa-13.7-billion-year-old universe and all that’s in it was created by a massive explosion of enormously dense matter at what may have been the beginning of time?

Yes, I think it’s true, even if I can’t explain it.

If there is a god, where is he?

I think God exists, and he is in my heart.

Is there a mystery to life?

No. For me, life is not a mystery; it’s a choice. My choice. It all depends on me.

Do you think we are alone in the universe?

No, because there is a God, so we can never be alone. But on our planet, being alone or not, I mean like friends and family, it doesn’t depend on God; it’s just our choice.

There is a theory that there may be parallel universes with exact copies of us – doppelgangers – doing exactly the same thing as us right now. What do you think about that?

I believe it’s true. I don’t know why, but I just feel it’s true. However, there is only one god to rule all the universes.

What do you think happens when people die?

For all people, and all animals, there is a life after death. Actually, people think you are dead, but God knows you are not.

Where is your soul, and what is it?

My soul is with God. Maybe it’s a part of Him – I mean a part of God in me.

Science says that all matter and energy cannot be created or destroyed. Therefore, will our energy, in the form of our soul, live on for infinity?

Yes, I think so, because I believe in life after death, so your soul never really dies, because it is with God, who is going to live for infinity.

Do you know your place in the universe?

I think so. For me, my place is in England, because I have seen so many documentaries about England that I think I have to go there. I hope one day I will go, also because I love Europe, and I feel I need to travel to that place.

Some people believe that because we are made of the same matter as the universe – carbon, and other elements, like nitrogen – anything we ask it will be attracted to us, popularized recently in the movie The Secret. What’s your view?

Of course, it’s true. I even did it once. It is like magic, like voodoo. But I’m not sure it depends on science.

Are we being observed?

By God, obviously.

If there is a god, why does he allows such colossal suffering of people on earth, either through war, disease or natural disasters?

Because not all the people do good things, and sometimes, when they disobey God’s desires, he gets angry and wants to punish them. It’s like revenge.
