Charlie Chaplin Bali Footage Raises Cash
LEGIAN ~ Rare footage of Charlie Chaplin’s 1932 visit to Bali was shown at the weekend to raise funds for the 2008 Balinale International Film Festival here in October.
The Bali Taksu Indonesia Foundation, which organized the dinner event at the Four Seasons in Jimbaran, said the money would fund a workshop for Indonesian filmmakers. Some US$4,000 was reportedly raised.
The iconic star of the silent cinema was said to have been captivated with Bali during his brief visit, and purportedly drew inspiration from Balinese comic actors for his uproarious on-screen antics, including his famous spring-kneed gait.Filed under: Headlines
