Bali Assembly to Summon Karangasem Regent

DENPASAR ~ Bali’s Assembly plans to summon Regent of Karangasem Wayan Geredeg in relation to his order to make a protected area of Padangbai into a tourist attraction.
Governor of Bali I Made Mangku Pastika recently asked the regent to revoke the order.
“The letter approving the summons has been signed by the chairman of the Assembly,” vice chairman Wayan Sutena said.
In the governor’s letter, the regent of Karangasem was given a deadline to respond a week after the letter was received on September 17.
Governor Pastika said he would instruct that the minister of internal affairs cancel the regent’s order if the deadline was not met.
According to Sutena, Geredeg would be wise to answer the letter as he could be sanctioned by the minister.
“The governor has sent letters twice because the case is unusual,” he said.
Meanwhile, coordinator of Bali Cares Forum Nyoman Pasek said that the changed function was only a dream for the Karangasem government.
Governor Pastika said he had not yet received any reports that the regent would refuse to obey his order, and a team was still investigating the situation.
Officials said Geredeg said recently he was not worried about the warning letter and would do as the governor asked.
According to him, residents of Padangbai requested the agricultural area be developed into a tourist attraction, and agreed to allow Korean investors to build a hotel named Chateau de Bali.
