German Tourist Found Dead in Hotel

AMLAPURA ~ A German tourist was found dead in her room at the Hotel Rama Candidasa last Friday, an official said.

According to police reports, Monica Kramer, 51, had checked in to the hotel on December 2, and had said she was suffering from Hepatitis C.

Employees said she never left the hotel during her 10-day stay, leaving her room only to sunbathe on the beach behind the hotel.

“Yesterday she looked confused. It was actually difficult for us to have her staying in the hotel, but we worried if we complained we would have problems with the travel agent,” hotel manager Wayan Tama said.

Tama said Kramer had said she had been to Bali International Medical Centre (BIMC) in Kuta for a check-up on Thursday.

“She looked confused when she got back from BIMC. She said she wanted to eat, but had no money. She went back to her room at 8pm,” he said.

According to Tama, hotel staff began to worry about Kramer when she didn’t come for breakfast on Friday, so head of housekeeping Made Sudarta went to check on her at 10am.

When Sudarta got no reply from inside the room, he forced the door open and found Kramer dead on the bed.

Manggis and Karangasem Police and the Public Health Centre said Kramer had been suffering from AIDS and had died as a result of the virus.

Spokesman for Karangasem Police Wayan Soerjana said he could not confirm the woman had died from AIDS.
