On Stump, President Sings a Song of Bali
DENPASAR ~ Campaigning in Bali at the weekend ahead of next moth’s legislative election, melodiously minded President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono promised to drastically improve conditions in Bali if candidates from his Democratic Party are elected.
“We will make Bali and Indonesia safer and more peaceful and prosperous,” he said at an election rally in Denpasar.
The president, who was accompanied by Culture and Tourism Minister Jero Wacik, said that under his first term in office, Bali had seen significant advancements.
“Bali has made great progress and its security has improved. Anyone wanting to disturb security in Bali will be dealt with in the strongest terms,” Yudhoyono said at Padang Galak Square.
Robust security nationwide would boost the entire country’s tourism sector, particularly Bali, as Indonesia’s leading tourism destination, he said.
“The Democratic Party has been proven successful in bringing about progress in national life, including in Bali,” the president said, adding that his party was focused on social welfare programs for the Balinese people.
The warbling head of state – who recently released a new album – broke into song, with Berjuang Untuk Rakyat (Fight for the People) and Sempurna (Perfect), before departing for Makassar, South Sulawesi.
Legislative elections are due to be held on April 9, with a presidential ballot on July 8.Filed under: Headlines
