Illegal Tour Guides Arrested, Fined
TABANAN ~ Ninety-three people arrested for illegally operating as tour guides appeared in Tabanan District Court this week and were each fined Rp 150,000 (US$15) under Bali Regulation 5 (2008), which requires guides to be licensed.
Trial judge Tavia Rahmawati said many of the offenders did not have an identification card or that it had expired.
Most of the offenders are reported to have come from outside Bali. They were illegally working as tour guides and charging tourists to be taken to attractions such as Tanah Lot.
The month-long crackdown was organised by a team set up to supervise and control tour-guide operations in Bali. It includes representatives of the Bali Tourist Police, local police, the High Court and the Department of Immigration.
As a result of the operation, two people were arrested for operating illegally at Alas Kedaton, six at Ulan Danu at Bedugal and 85 at Tanah Lot.Filed under: The Island
