Gianyar Gets Tough on Unlicensed Villas
GIANYAR ~ The Gianyar government is preparing to clamp down on the illegal operation of commercial villas and has called on villa owners in the regency to immediately contact the Gianyar licensing agency for permission to operate.
The regency believes it is losing 60 percent of the income it should be receiving from permits for villas to operate and from tourism taxes then levied on licensed villas.
It says it will now conduct inspections and searches of villas for building permits (IMB) and other permissions.
Previous inspections have shown that of 581 villas in the regency only 143 had permits to operate. The remaining 438 did not have permits and were not paying tax.Filed under: The Island
