From the perspective of Mustafa, a 29-year-old bamboo-blinds-maker from Tuban.
What are we here for?
To look after our families.
Do you believe in the Big Bang theory that the 13.7-billion-year-old universe and all that’s in it was created by a massive explosion of enormously dense matter at what may have been the beginning of time?
No, I don’t. I believe the world was created by God.
If there is a God, where is he?
God is in my heart.
Is there a mystery to life?
Life is mystery. Sometimes it’s like dreaming.
Do you think we are alone in the universe?
No, there has to be other life.
There is a theory that there may be parallel universes with exact copies of us, doppelgangers, doing exactly the same thing as us right now. What do you think about that?
I believe that.
What do you think happens to people when they die?
It depends on the person, what they do in their life.
Where your soul and what is it?
My soul is my feelings and is in my heart.
Science says that all matter and energy can neither be created nor destroyed. Therefore, will our energy, in the form of our soul, live on for infinity?
No. Our energy will disappear when we die.
Some people believe that because we are made of the same matter as the universe – carbon, and other elements, like nitrogen – anything we ask it will be attracted to us, popularised in the movie The Secret. What’s your view?
I think that’s right. What there is in the universe I feel there is inside me.
Are we being observed?
If there is a God, why does he allow such colossal suffering of people on Earth, either through war, disease or natural disasters?
It depends on what God gives to each person, what their path is. We must be patient and stop doing what it wrong in our lives.
