Action Stations for Charity Art Auction
A robust line-up of Bali-based artists’ works will go under the hammer at a special Art in Action auction at Gaya Gallery at Sayan, near Ubud, on Saturday (May 1).
Abstractionist Theos (Professor Theos M. B. Sijrier), known as the king of action painting, will splash and daub his way across a 10.5 x 2.25 metre canvas. Nico Vrielink, viewed by many as one of the greatest large-format portraitists working on this or any island will create a very different work on an adjacent wall.
Alongside will be Ukrainian-born portrait painter Galina Schierholz, who is well known for her lush and evocative works, and internationally celebrated Bali-born artist Ida Bagus Indra with his long-time artistic collaborator, poet and painter John O’Sullivan, who is also general manager of Four Seasons Jimbaran.
Guests at the evening, who will bid for the works painted at the event, will be entertained over dinner by the Bali Blues Band from Ubud’s Jazz Café.
Auctioneer is Bruce Carpenter, who customarily introduces new art exhibitions at Ganesha Gallery at the Four Seasons. He says of the event: “It is special because it features acclaimed artists painting in a diverse variety of styles.”
Proceeds will go to the Balinese children’s scholarship programme at the Pelangi Community School, Ubud.
Organisers say bookings are essential for the Rp150,000-a-head event. Gaya Art Space, Jl Raya Sayan, Ubud, phone 0361 979252.Filed under: Arts & Entertainment
