From the perspective of Ni Nyoman Suprastini, 25, a wedding consultant from Denpasar.
What are we here for?
I am here to be what I am and to do what I want to do. I’m really thankful for being alive.
Do you believe in the Big Bang theory that the circa-13.7-billion-year-old universe and all that’s in it was created by a massive explosion of enormously dense matter at what may have been the beginning of time?
I never heard of it but I think it’s possibly true. I think life is a process. There is a cause and effect in all aspects of life. So that theory sounds possible to me.
If there is a God, where is he?
God is deep inside my heart. My heart is my God. My heart is what guides me in life. When I am confused and when I don’t know what to do, I always ask my heart. I believe that God answers through my heart.
Is there a mystery to life?
Everyday is a mystery for me. You never know what happens after you wake up.
Do you think we’re alone in the universe?
No, we’re not.
There is a theory that there may be parallel universes with exact copies of us – doppelgangers – doing exactly the same thing as us right now. What do you think about that?
Well, there are some theories that say so, but there’s no proof of that.
So what do you think happens to people when they die?
Based on what I believe, when people die, their spirit will go to a different world. Based on our religion, we believe that there are three worlds – God’s world, humans’ world and the devil’s world. When we die, we will be a pure spirit.
Where is your soul and what is it?
My soul is all over my body. It’s our passion.
Science says that all matter and energy can neither be created nor destroyed. Therefore, will our energy, in the form of our soul, live on for infinity?
My soul will live on until I die and then it will be gone.
Do you know your place in the universe?
I am here to be part of the universe no matter how small I am. My role is to be what I am.
Some people believe that because we are made of the same matter as the universe – carbon, and other elements, like nitrogen – anything we ask it will be attracted to us, popularised in the movie The Secret. What’s your view?
I believe that I can always get what I want if I work hard for it, even if it might take a lot of time.
Are we being observed?
Yes, by anything that is sent by God.
If there is a God, why does he allow such colossal suffering of people on Earth, either through war, disease or natural disasters?
They are not from God but they are just humans’ fault. We can’t blame everything on God.
