Swiss Man Latest Victim of Flat-Tyre Bandits
Bali’s flat-tyre robbers are back in action. The latest victim is a Swiss national, named by police as Subra Cantal, 58, on Sunset Road at Kuta on Friday.
Cantal, who lives at Jl Arjuna, Legian, was driving a vehicle on Sunset Road about 1.45pm on Friday when, after stopping at several places to make business calls, the tyres went flat. The driver left the vehicle to find a tyre shop and on return found it had been broken into.
A Swiss passport and driver’s licence, KITAS residency visa, accounts book, cheques to the value of Rp5.1 million (US$550), and US dollars, Euros and rupiah cash totalling Rp5.1 million had been stolen. Total value of the theft was Rp25 million ($2,700).
Kuta Police said they believed the thief or thieves were professional criminals who had watched the vehicle and deflated the tyres at one of its stops on Sunset Road, then broken into it when the driver walked away to get help. They are looking for the offenders.Filed under: Headlines
