Forecasts for week beginning June 19, 2010.
By Jonathan Cainer
Some astrological events take place every few decades or, even, every few centuries. Others are hardy annuals. There’s a solstice in June, for example, every year. It doesn’t necessarily, though, always have the same effect. We all tend to feel energised when the Sun reaches its turning point along the horizon and many people notice their spirits lifting while it seemingly stays in the same place for three days. This year, though, all this is happening at the same time as a rare heavenly alignment. The impact is due to be greatly intensified. I predict a very exciting week.
CANCER (June 23 – July 23)
Have you ever become so determined to succeed at a task that you have forgotten why you wanted to perform it in the first place? Even if the reason for the quest becomes redundant, you don’t want to stop. You want to finish what you have started and prove how well you keep your word. There are times when it’s right to be so focused, and times when it’s crazy to carry on. The only way to tell is to deliberately disengage. If, after a while, you feel you have to go on, you clearly need to. If not, you’ve broken free and should feel glad. The solstice, this week, and the Sun’s arrival in your sign, is an omen of great hope.
LEO (July 24 – August 23)
Opportunities are only useful to us if we are able to recognise them. We can be surrounded by all the things we need most – but if they’re hidden behind walls or if we’re looking to the left when they happen to be on the right… we’ll feel as if nothing is on offer to us. Pessimists forget that opportunity is playful and likes to play hide and seek. Optimists, though, just join in the game. If they can’t see an opening or a possibility, they start hunting. They inwardly “know” it must be somewhere nearby, waiting to be dug out. Be as optimistic as you can this solstice week. If you set out looking for a better way, you WILL find one!
VIRGO (August 24 – September 23)
My favourite children’s story involves a fox and a rabbit. The fox has caught the rabbit and wants to punish it. The rabbit pleads, “Oh, Mr. Fox, do whatever you want to me – but please… don’t throw me in the briar patch.” The fox, though, is so furious, he does exactly what he has been asked not to do. The rabbit is delighted because the briar patch is just where he wanted to end up. You may find, this week, that someone’s persuasive protestations are misleading. Or that your own insistence on a plan is based on a sense of what you “ought to want,” not what you really want. The solstice brings clarity and confidence.
LIBRA (September 24 – October 23)
You can’t stop the rain but you can carry an umbrella. You can’t tell the sun not to shine but if you are worried about getting burned, you can put up a parasol. You can’t change the way people act; you can change the way you respond. You can’t control a certain situation; you can, though, adjust your attitude towards it. Don’t allow anything or anyone to make you feel uncomfortable this week. Set about making yourself as relaxed as you can under current solstice circumstances… then watch how things magically begin to change! Rather than wish for powers you may never get, use the many powers that you actually have.
SCORPIO (October 24 – November 22)
We think we know how things are supposed to be. That’s why we judge ourselves and others so easily. Of course, we don’t really know, we are just guessing. All we can be sure of is that we can’t be sure of anything. That, though, is a scary proposition. Which is why we cling so hard to life’s seeming certainties. Great unknowns now hover over you. You are wrestling with awkward questions. There is nothing wrong with these. You should neither be ashamed of nor worried about them. Don’t hide – or hide from them. Own them. Embrace them. Then relax into a week full of solstice revelations that bring much reassurance.
SAGITTARIUS (November 23 – December 21)
We all feel a thrill when we try to do something difficult and it works out well. We all feel foolish when we’ve been overambitious and have paid the price. But those who aren’t willing to risk failure can never enjoy the elation of success. Whether you play it safe or go for broke this week, there’s a chance you’ll end up wishing you made the other choice. The solstice is not, in itself, a guarantee of infallibility. The real question you need to ask yourself is not, “Will I win?” but how much will I lose if I don’t? There are no hidden surprises in the situation you face. Trust your own most optimistic understanding of what’s at stake.
CAPRICORN (December 22 – January 20)
Where is the real purpose, the true meaning, the ultimate explanation? These are not questions that many of us bother to ask too often. We know that they rarely lead to fully satisfying answers. Something in your life now makes ever less sense the more you think about it. So stop thinking about it. The annual solstice in your opposite sign is a promise of help where you need it, when you need it. You’ve also got a way now, to offer timely assistance to someone else. Sometimes, we just have to abandon the quest for total understanding and follow our highest hopes and deepest loyalties. That’s got to be worth a try this week.
AQUARIUS (January 21 – February 19)
Some situations drain our strength. Others give us energy. Often though, when we are in the midst of a drama, it is difficult for us to tell what an effect it is having on us. Only with hindsight do we realise whether an event has blessed us with a valuable experience or created a fascinating waste of time. You suspect that you are now getting caught up in a problem that you don’t want and can’t see the point of. Your natural reaction is to steer clear of an issue that you fear will eat up all your time and energy. But in facing it, dealing with it and fixing it, you could yet be working the most amazing solstice magic.
PISCES (February 20 – March 20)
Are you having a good influence on a particular person’s life? You are beginning to wonder. You suspect that if you weren’t a part of their world, they might be making some very different choices. You can’t automatically conclude from this, though, that the two of you would be better apart. There’s a powerful connection. A momentous story is unfolding. You are a part of it. It is part of you. There’s no accident or mistake here, just destiny at work. Trust that and don’t waste too much time questioning your key involvements and commitments this week. The solstice is about to open your eyes to a most inspiring perspective.
ARIES (March 21 – April 20)
There are two conflicting impulses are acting on you now. One is hemming you in. The other is pushing you to be free. Yet it’s only through coming to terms with your current limitations that you’re going to go beyond them. The signs and signals that seem to suggest you can’t do – or can’t change – something are really just invitations to find a way in which you actually can. The solstice suggests that your obstacles are, potentially, your most valuable tools for moving forward. It’s just a question of seeing an old situation in a new way. Once this process of recognition begins in earnest, there will be no stopping you.
TAURUS (April 21 – May 21)
We all have a soft side. No matter how tough we seem or how impervious to criticism we may appear, we are gentle, vulnerable souls at heart. Indeed, the more gruff and blunt our outward persona, the more sensitivity we are likely to be hiding. Now, think about an adversary or a person with whom you’re at loggerheads. What lies behind their fierce facade? What’s really causing a conflict? It’s easy to escalate an argument. Just react to every provocation. But if you want to take advantage of the solstice magic and get everything to move on as it ought to, you need to be bigger than all that. Try a little tenderness.
GEMINI (May 22 – June 22)
It’s easy to buy fruit from a shop. It tastes nicer, though, when you have climbed a tree to pick it. And if you really want the sweet taste of success, float your fruit in a bowl of water, hold your hands behind your back and try to catch it with your mouth. There are easier ways to attain an objective, this week, than the route you have chosen. But there’s a reason why you’ve accepted a particular challenge. You’re doing something more creative and meaningful than just following the most obvious option. The solstice implies that the twists and turns in your current path are a key part of a process that can only benefit you.
