City Vehicle Tests Fail Only 25%
City environment agency tests on selected vehicles show a quarter of them failed to meet emission standards. The tests, at a new hard-track facility at Kompyang Sujana sports field in the city, are designed to reduce Denpasar’s heavy air pollution from vehicles.
Environment chief Alit Sudibya said the city would continue to implement emission controls measures as part of its pollution-reduction campaign.
Of the 32 cars and 25 motorcycles tested on Tuesday, 75 percent passed the test based on the 2006 national ministerial decree on threshold emission limits.
Drivers and riders whose vehicles and bikes failed the test were urged to have them serviced. “We appealed to the owners to play their part in cleaning up Denpasar’s air quality,” Subidya said, adding that the Environmental Agency and Transport Department hoped to conduct tests regularly.Filed under: Headlines
