Forecasts for week beginning August 7, 2010.

By Jonathan Cainer

Normally, an opposition between Jupiter and Saturn would make headline news on its own. It only happens once every 20 years or so. Now though, it’s just part of a bigger, more unusual alignment involving Uranus and Pluto. Venus too, gets involved with the “cosmic cross” this week, before moving on to meet up with Mars. The upshot of it all is that there’s hardly anyone on the planet whose horoscope isn’t being touched by a powerful influence. Even those of us who are finding life hard going can expect to benefit from the changes that are on their way.

LEO (July 24 – August 23)
Think of the symbol of infinity. A figure of eight on its side. An eternal loop circuit. Now think of the way in which you seem to be repeating old experiences. How come you are back where you were or somewhere that seems remarkably similar? It’s not necessarily because you are making a backward move. It’s more because there’s something new to discover in a situation that you have dismissed as far too familiar. You are revisiting an aspect of your past so that you can avoid making an old mistake once more. Now, here’s your chance to learn something that sets you truly free to enjoy a happier future.

VIRGO (August 24 – September 23)
Optimism is not fashionable at the moment. Hope is last year’s thing. If you want to be in, you need to wear the colours of despair. All around we see people with bleak blacks and deep blues. They may be worried about money, love, health or happiness or they may be picking their pessimism from the sorry smorgasbord of global concern. They may be afraid of war, pollution, recession or plague but they’re anxious about something for sure. Gloom and doom may be de rigueur, but it doesn’t suit you. And, this week, it’s especially inappropriate. You’ve got something truly worth celebrating. As you’ll soon see.

LIBRA (September 24 – October 23)
If you want advice, you can get it easily enough. There’s no shortage of people who are willing to pass judgement on one another. Ask almost anyone what you should do and you will get an opinion of some kind. Few people will worry about whether they truly know enough about your situation to say anything relevant. They’ll just be happy enough to talk off the top of their heads. This, though, is the kind of advice you really don’t want. Don’t seek it, don’t listen to it and don’t take it this week. Saturn is in your sign. You can give yourself all the advice you need. Your most constructive ideas now are the ones to follow.

SCORPIO (October 24 – November 22)
“If you don’t recognise your weaknesses, you can’t make allowances for your strengths.” One weakness that many of us suffer from is a tendency to undervalue our own strengths! We do ourselves down. We doubt our own abilities. We steer clear of the challenges that we feel only just able to rise to. Yet it is only through stretching ourselves a little that we ever reach our full potential. This week brings an invitation you can easily turn down, or an opportunity that looks as if it could be more trouble than it’s worth. Don’t be so quick to back away from what could yet prove the chance of a lifetime. Trust your entitlement to success.

SAGITTARIUS (November 23 – December 21)
The deeper the mystery, the more satisfying the solution. The more baffling the problem, the happier we feel when we see a way round it. Keep reminding yourself of this. You have not been put in a situation you cannot cope with. Rather, you have arrived at a point that requires every last ounce of your stamina and concentration. You are not going to find your task easy but you are going to find it possible. You haven’t got much more than you need – but you have got what it takes. You will only fail if you give up. As long as you persevere, you will succeed. Will your moment of triumph really be worth all that effort? It will!

CAPRICORN (December 22 – January 20)
What do you have to be thankful for? What are you entitled to resent? Automatically, unconsciously, we make judgements about events, circumstances and experiences. We deem them good or bad and then think no further about whether we have applied the correct label. No process of selection, though, is ever perfect. We all mistakenly celebrate gains of dubious merit. We all complain about factors we should be glad of. Look again, this week, at something that seems to be a problem. Actually, it’s a gift. Accept it, embrace it and watch everything improve as a direct result of your new, wise understanding.

AQUARIUS (January 21 – February 19)
“Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate… on the present moment.” When Buddha said these wise words, he wasn’t just addressing would-be seers and sages. Or rather, he was… but he felt that included all of us. And why not? Aren’t we all ultimately looking for wisdom and enlightenment, whether we know it or not? But there’s only one way that any of us will ever find true happiness – and it’s through learning to appreciate the hidden magic of the here and now. Give your heart to what’s most important this week and you’ll instantly understand what’s needed next and how you can help to make it happen.

PISCES (February 20 – March 20)
We assume that others can see what we see. We expect them to think what we think, believe what we believe and value what we value. Usually we find that it is easy to surround ourselves with like-minded people. All we have to do is keep away from the folk who clearly disagree with us. Then, as long as we don’t ask the rest of our companions too many awkward questions, we can comfortably uphold the pretence. Your view now differs from someone else’s. This really need not be a problem for them… or for you. Don’t look for rights and wrongs this week. Look for ways to develop mutual respect.

ARIES (March 21 – April 20)
I’m always advising people to have faith, but even I must concede that faith won’t move a mountain – no matter how much effort you combine it with. Mountains are notorious for their reluctance to move. Faith, though, will help you find a way round the mountain. Or over it. Or under it. Or it will help you to see why the mountain doesn’t need to be moved after all. You have got more faith than you realise now. You are also, by nature, a person who is always willing to put in plenty of effort. So all you need is ingenuity! Have you spent so long thinking about a difficult plan that you have forgotten to look for easier alternatives?

TAURUS (April 21 – May 21)
Why can’t people be nicer to each other? Why must they always criticise, complain, and bicker? Why can’t they cooperate? Why must they always prove points and nurse grudges? Regardless of the reason, it’s a game you can leave others to play this week. You can’t make anyone else fairer or friendlier, but you can put your own best foot forward and risk being considered naive or weak. If it breaks a deadlock and brings progress, that’s a small price to pay. Even if it seemingly brings no such tangible results, it will make you feel better about yourself. You will be amazed by what a positive attitude brings.

GEMINI (May 22 – June 22)
Where will you be this time next year? What will have changed? What is likely to have stayed much the same? If you really want to sit down and contemplate such questions, you can come up with some fairly reliable answers. Perhaps you would rather not know. Perhaps you would prefer to be surprised. You are, though, trying to make a delicate decision. You will reach a much wiser conclusion if you really stop and think, this week, about what’s likely to be important in the future. One thing that will remain as essential then, as it is now, is your peace of mind. And the only way to get that is to nurture kindness in your heart.

CANCER (June 23 – July 23)
If your feet could speak, what would they be saying to you now? And what if your mouth could have a voice of its own instead of being constantly obliged to express itself on behalf of the rest of your body? Now, how about various other crucial parts of you that don’t normally get much of a say? Aren’t they entitled to some attention and respect? Somewhere, within your world this week, there’s a need that’s yearning to be acknowledged. It can definitely be met. But only if you are sensitive enough to realise how important this is. Listen to your heart. Let it tell you what it truly wants and feels. And respect that.
