Forecasts for week beginning August 14, 2010.
By Jonathan Cainer.
The big news, this week, is Jupiter’s opposition to Saturn. That’s a classic clash of optimism versus pessimism, levity versus gravitas, faith versus fear, hope versus hard-heartedness. Or at least, it is if you view it from Jupiter’s angle. Those of a more Saturnine disposition might see it as tradition versus change, restraint versus extremism, sense versus silliness or fact versus theory. This cosmic conflict means different things to different people. But in all our lives, it symbolises the need to look at what we once took for granted and recognise the arguments for and against a new idea.
LEO (July 24 – August 23)
If you find yourself doing exactly what you intended to be doing this week, you may be doing something wrong. The planets suggest that you are probably supposed to be doing something that you are not really supposed to do. It’s life’s more unexpected developments and apparent mistakes that always have most to offer us… and to teach us. Jupiter and Neptune suggest that, should you encounter a diversion, a distraction or a development that’s neither on your agenda nor in your plan, you may as well indulge your curiosity and explore it. It could well turn out to be the road that leads you exactly where you need to go next.
VIRGO (August 24 – September 23)
We tend to think of destiny as non-negotiable. We imagine it is where we will end up, or what we will end up with, no matter what we do. But the book of tomorrow is not printed in indelible ink. It is best thought of as a set of pencil outline drawings that can easily be altered or even erased. I mention that because you have such a chance this week to change your direction in life; to make choices which alter everything or to redefine your sense of what’s possible. It is possible, as my colleague Kathryn Cassidy once pointed out in an internet blog, to collaborate with fate. That’s what you need to do this week.
LIBRA (September 24 – October 23)
We think of palm trees and beaches when we want to envisage ourselves enjoying life. We think of grey skies and concrete jungles when we are conjuring an image of struggle and oppression. In fact, though, our physical environment has only a peripheral impact on our state of mind. To become happier this week, you don’t need to change your location. You don’t, indeed, need to make any dramatic change in your lifestyle. You simply need to resolve a conflict. The easiest way to do that is to adjust your expectation of someone or something. If you feel easier about a situation, the situation will positively respond!
SCORPIO (October 24 – November 22)
Ignorance is not bliss. Innocence is. There is a big difference between these two similar sounding states. Ignorance is when you know that there is something you don’t know but you can’t be bothered to find out. Innocence, is when you don’t know whether you know or not – but are willing to learn. This week brings the chance to make a discovery. It is not a chance you are obliged to take. You can carry on as you are. If you elect to wear blinkers and close your mind, this will let you avoid feeling daunted or confronted by the need to tackle a tough topic. But if you want to be happier and better off, start asking innocent questions.
SAGITTARIUS (November 23 – December 21)
You have an idea of how things could be one day. You figure, understandably, that if something is going to be possible one day in the future, it ought to be possible now, too. It’s frustrating to have to live with a limitation when you strongly suspect that one day it will no longer apply. You won’t, though, make tomorrow come any more quickly by ignoring today’s reality. For the time being, at least, you must respect the situation you find yourself in and work slowly and carefully to create a consensus for change. You are though, perfectly entitled to feel inspired by your confident vision of a different future!
CAPRICORN (December 22 – January 20)
Do you want some good news? Would you like to be truly uplifted and inspired? Are you now feeling nervous about reading the rest of this forecast lest it causes you to become vulnerable by raising a hope that then gets dashed? Your answer to that last question reveals a lot. If you are now too confident, you may inadvertently overlook the obvious drawback to a tempting proposition. If, though, you are too sceptical, you may fail to spot that the drawback can be compensated for. You need a blend of caution and hope. You also need to trust your ingenuity. Think smart thoughts and you’ll yet get great results.
AQUARIUS (January 21 – February 19)
A little kindness goes a long way. And a lot of kindness? Well, there are two schools of thought. Some say it doesn’t get you anywhere. If you are too kind, they insist, it works against you. People take you for granted and treat your generosity as a weakness they can exploit. But being kind always gets you somewhere – and it is always somewhere worth getting. Even if it just gets you right back where you started, that will only be because where you started from is the right place to return to! The cosmos, this week, intends to be kind to you. Be kind, in turn, even to people who you might feel you have reason to be harsh with.
PISCES (February 20 – March 20)
Why not just say whatever a particular person wants to hear? Why not just do whatever’s going to be easiest under current circumstances? Why demand the truth, when the truth is likely to prove so demanding to deal with? You know the answers to these questions. You also know precisely why you are holding out for something better and brighter. Or, at least, you know the theory. You are finding the practice hard going. This week, though, you will encounter more temptation to paint a picture that pleases someone else’s eye… but if you stick to the truth as you understand it, you’ll create something far more real and valuable.
ARIES (March 21 – April 20)
It sometimes seems as if the world is covered in treacle and tar. There’s a whole load of messy, stressy stuff everywhere we walk. Once we step in it, we can’t easily free ourselves from it. Emotionally, financially, logistically, everything becomes an “issue”; a tricky sticky subject that we can’t quite escape. That stickiness transfers to everything and everyone we touch. Almost as fast as we remove one problem, we step into another. That’s how it sometimes seems. This week, though, the cosmos offers you a kind of solvent that sets you free from problems and leaves you feeling clean and clear. Enjoy.
TAURUS (April 21 – May 21)
The inner you is rather different to the person you appear to be on the outside. At times, you even fool yourself and forget that you have a passionate heart and a complicated mind beneath your smoothly presented personality. That “inner you” won’t get much chance to hide this week. You’ve got deep needs, powerful emotions and intense reactions. Give them the attention they deserve. You need not hide the extent to which you are being affected by your pressing concerns. Those who matter will understand and lend support. And the more honest with yourself you are about what you feel, the happier you will be.
GEMINI (May 22 – June 22)
There’s no such thing as a simple relationship. No matter who it’s with or how well it works, it involves several different factors. There is your relationship with the other person and your relationship with the fact that you are in a relationship. There is the other person’s relationship with you, and their relationship with the relationship. Got that? Now try this. There’s your relationship with the way they relate to the relationship. Plus, there is their relationship with the way you relate to the relationship. This week, a relationship is changing. But which one? And in which way? Don’t think too hard about any of this. Just be sincere.
CANCER (June 23 – July 23)
If you don’t drink coffee often, a few sips of latte will get you buzzing. If you’re a regular caffeine fiend, you may need a triple-espresso before you notice a difference. We develop a greater tolerance towards almost anything we are frequently exposed to. You have been through many tough times. You can put up with an impressive amount of trouble before you reach your limit. Something, though, now seems to be pushing you to the edge of your endurance. You are being stretched, but you are in no danger of snapping. In fact, this week’s challenge, once you rise to it, will prove just your cup of… er… tea.
