Top Police Job Now in Selection Process

The selection process for appointment as the next National Police chief commenced this week with several names on the selection committee`s list.

The chairman of the National Police Commission (Kompolnas), Djoko Santoso, said on Thursday the commission had begun selecting from eight candidates already on the list.

Suyanto, who is also coordinating minister for political and security affairs, said the candidates whose names had been submitted by the present National Police chief were two- as well as three-star police generals.

He said Kompolnas would immediately evaluate their curriculum vitae and submit recommendations regarding the prospective candidates to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono who would choose one of them before National Police Chief General Bambang Hendarso Danuri retired in October this year.

Djoko said the normative requirements for National Police chief were integrity, capability and capacity.

“Apart from these requirements, candidates must have experience, a track record and reached a high enough rank,” he said.

Djoko said the new National Police chief had to be able to implement reform in the police force, including in the force`s public services, community protection and public order and security.

Kompolnas commissioner Adnan Raja Pandu said verification would be carried out in September.

Asked on the names of candidates that have been received by Kompolnas he said he did not know as they were confidential. He said the names would be made public in October.

He said in verifying the candidates Kompolnas would also involve other commissions concerned so that the next National Police leadership would be free of problems related to human rights, corruption and taxes.

Among the commissions to be involved in the verification were the National Commission on Human Rights, the Corruption Eradication Commission, the Financial Transaction Analysis and Reporting (PPATK) and the Directorate General of Taxation.
