Forecasts for week beginning August 28, 2010.
By Jonathan Cainer
Earlier this year, Neptune returned to the same position that it occupied on the day it was first discovered. It’s still hanging around the same spot… because it moves so slowly. Compare that with the Moon, which whizzes round the zodiac once every 27.5 days. Or Saturn, which takes 27.5 years to circle the sky. Neptune revealed itself to us just as the earliest prototype cameras were being invented. It now completes its 164-year cycle just in time to herald the global advent of 3D TV; which may yet prove as revolutionary and world-changing as the photograph!
VIRGO (August 24 – September 23)
You can’t set out to climb a mountain while you are already in the middle of climbing a mountain! You can’t immediately finish your breakfast and then tuck straight into your lunch. Or rather, you can, but it’s not very advisable – or enjoyable. You’ve got a lot of responsibilities at the moment. You will feel better once some of these have been discharged. If you take on more, you will just end up feeling as if you are tied to a treadmill. There are some people you want to help, and some activities you feel keen to get involved in. Still, though, you need to pace yourself. Do what’s genuinely urgent this week and then wait a while. The rest may well just take care of itself.
LIBRA (September 24 – October 23)
You’re special. Different. Not all the rules of this world apply to you in quite the same way as they apply to others. I’m not suggesting you have carte blanche to flout authority or to do everything your own way but it is important now, that you don’t allow yourself to be hemmed in by narrow ideas and unimaginative expectations. You’ve got ideas that deserve to be taken seriously, dreams that can come true if only you really wake up and start working on them. Be sensitive to your critics and delicate with those who aren’t feeling so adventurous but be aware too that this week brings a chance to explore your options, broaden your horizons and increase your power.
SCORPIO (October 24 – November 22)
One reason why some people find you difficult to fathom is because you can often come across as a confident person with an air of unimpeachable authority. Deep within, though, you can be insecure, unsure and shy. These contradictions add layers of rich complexity to the tapestry of your psyche – even if they confuse other people. Now, though, your inner and outer selves are in full agreement. There’s something wrong – something that needs to be addressed bravely but with sensitivity. You’ll need both an air of self-assurance and a degree of humility if you are to be as effective as you need to be. There’s nothing to fear and everything to play for this week.
SAGITTARIUS (November 23 – December 21)
You may need to be a little careful, this week. You may think that you face a familiar set of circumstances. You may imagine that you know exactly how a story is going to turn out. If you want things to be different, though, they can be. Forget the formulas you think you are so familiar with. Don’t just play out the speeches you have long since memorised in your mind. Listen to what’s really being said. Watch for what’s really happening. You’re going through something superficially similar to an old experience – but there’s a distinct difference… and if you can be alert enough to see this, you can turn these circumstances around so that they work very much in your favour.
CAPRICORN (December 22 – January 20)
“There is only one corner of the universe you can be certain of improving, and that’s your own self.” So said the great philosopher Aldous Huxley. There’s not much now in the external world that you can easily adjust, but in your inner world, there’s a great change that you can bring about. Those two worlds are much more deeply connected than most of us ever realise or remember. Alter your point of view and you’ll also alter what you are looking at! Convince yourself that you can reach your objective and you’ll start to see how that’s possible. If there’s something you’re unhappy about, seek a source of inner strength that doesn’t depend on changing circumstances.
AQUARIUS (January 21 – February 19)
You see them sometimes. On TV, in movies, and – once or twice – even from a distance in real life. Unflappable individuals, cool characters. Calm, mellow, composed, graceful beings who are clearly blessed with an even temperament and a degree of wisdom that we mere mortals can only dream of. It is hard to imagine how they would cope if they were ever to face some genuine pressure. You’re not a fictional character, you’re a true human and you don’t have to pretend that everything is fine this week. You just have to do your best. Even if you wish your best were better, it’s going to be more than good enough to help you get you a result you can feel proud of.
PISCES (February 20 – March 20)
If you stand behind a car with its engine running and you breathe in the exhaust fumes, you won’t think much of it. If, though, you really need to get from one place to another and that car is capable of taking you there, you will feel differently. Now, here’s another analogy. None of us like phone masts. We are understandably worried about the harm they may cause us. When, though, we are in an emergency situation we all feel very grateful for the ability to pull a device out of our pocket and start making a call. You can contemplate the rights and wrongs of a controversial situation later. This week, though, be glad of what’s much more an asset than a drawback.
ARIES (March 21 – April 20)
Nothing stands still. Some situations, it’s true, seem to change at a glacial pace. But even these eventually move on. For a long while now, you have been making an allowance for a frustrating state of affairs. You have begun to assume that you will never be free from an awkward imposition or an uncomfortable complication. I’m not promising that this week your difficulty will vanish entirely. But, like a cloud that slowly grows less dense as the sunlight begins to find a way through, it will start to show you that it is not going to be with you forever. Take heart from the signs and signals you are starting to see. They are as genuine as they are encouraging.
TAURUS (Aril 21 – May 21)
You win some, you lose some. You clear up a mess you create another one in the process! You try to save some money, and you end up spending even more. All these things can and do happen from time to time. Is that bad? What a question. That’s like asking whether there is something wrong with a day if it is followed by a night. Life has its rhythms and its seasons. When we are on an up, we don’t worry too much about the down. When things seem to be going against us, we figure the tide will never turn again. This week brings something brilliant, and something frustrating. Give your energy to the former; and, to the latter give your faith and your patience.
GEMINI (May 22 – June 22)
Things can’t carry on in the same old way. And they won’t. So don’t expect them to. If you are trying to prevent a change from happening, let it happen and trust that you will be okay with what it leads to. If you are trying to bring a change about, stop pushing quite so hard. Sooner or later, it is going to take place naturally. Not happy with this advice? Then either you are being unnecessarily anxious or you are dealing with something deeply serious. If it’s the former, relax! If it’s the latter, be brave. There will be movement soon enough and you won’t have to force it to happen. You’ll just have to gently steer a process that has a natural momentum of its own.
CANCER (June 23 – July 23)
When is enough, enough? What’s too much? Where is too far? How can you be sure that you have reached the end of the line? Warning signs and signals are not always reliable. Sometimes, false alarms are triggered. Sometimes, things look much worse than they are. Recently, you have been given cause for concern. Your foot is now hovering over the brake. You are psychologically steeling yourself for a sudden stop or U-turn. Double-check the facts before you actually implement a decision this week. You may yet find that, as long as you remain alert and aware, things naturally sort themselves out and that no further evasive action needs to be taken.
LEO (July 24 – August 23)
A chap called Dale Carnegie once wrote How To Win Friends And Influence People. This book did not win him many friends but it certainly influenced a series of imitators. Each declared on the cover of their own book that this was the Ultimate Guide To Becoming Successful. These days bookshops have entire floors dedicated to self-improvement. You can even buy books about how to avoid being influenced by people who are trying to influence you! Yet, this week, in order to shine, succeed, and accomplish great things, you merely need to do what comes naturally. Trust your own judgement and be a little suspicious of anyone who claims to know “exactly what you need!”
