Two people were injured when a diving boat sank off the remote island of Komodo around midnight on Tuesday, forcing a dozen panicked foreigners to scramble to safety, the dive firm said on Thursday.

The boat, Blue Dragon 2, which contains accommodation for guests, seemed to have hit a coral outcrop before sinking, Dody Donatus, reservations and ticketing clerk with Blue Dragon Indonesia, which operates two such craft, told The Bali Times.

“We are still awaiting a report from the captain,” he said, declining to name the skipper, who remained in the Flores port town of Labuan Bajo where he was undergoing police questioning.

The two injured were a divemaster and a cook, said Donatus. “They were putting on their lifejackets when they were injured,” he said. A total of seven crewmembers were aboard the wooden vessel.

Guests comprised 12 people, from Japan, the United States, Taiwan and Singapore, Donatus said. They were taken to Labuan Baju before flying to Bali on Thursday morning. The injured crew were to receive further medical attention in Bali.

Blue Dragon Indonesia owner Emil Bei, from Flores, was with the guests at Ngurah Rai International Airport as his company attempted to secure accommodation for them. “We have been trying to book accommodation for them since yesterday,” Donatus said.

The trip from Bali to eastern parts of Indonesia had been scheduled to last until Friday, after setting sail on Sunday. Around four dives had been completed before the accident happened, said Donatus.

Blue Dragon 2 is under about 300 metres of water. It was not clear if the guests would be refunded for their trip, or if their accommodation in Bali would be paid for by the dive firm.

Blue Dragon 1 is on a leisure cruise in the Komodo area.

My god! I would be on this boat if my passport valid period was not less than half a year. AirAsia check-in desk refused to issue boarding card to me when I was checking in with all my diving equipment at airport. This helped me to escape this disaster.

This could be right because expedia or opodo are going to take some of he money so if the hotel puts the price up then they are keeping the profit margin the same.
