Murdered Girl’s Bike Found with Lead to Killer
Police have found a motorbike belonging to murdered student Dewa Agung Ayu Diah Cahyani, 18, found naked and stabbed on her bed at her Panjer boarding house 10 days ago — and the bike has fingerprints they believe are those of her killer.
The motorbike was found at Mengwi, in Badung, west of Denpasar, last weekend.
South Denpasar Police chief Leo Martin Pasaribu Sik, who announced the find on Monday, said forensic investigators were confident the fingerprints on the bike were those of the killer.
He said that although fingerprints had been found police had not yet tracked down the suspect. “We are developing the investigation,” he said. “Any detail, however small, makes it possible for us to widen inquiries.”
Police have interviewed 30 witnesses, including residents of the boarding house where Cahyani lived, her friends and family members.
“No one at the boarding house is a suspect,” Pasaribu said. “They have just provided us with witness statements.”
Police still do not have a motive for the brutal slaying. Cahyani – familiarly known as Echa and found by her uncle who was to the boarding house by her father, top Bangli bureaucrat Dewa Made Suparta, because he had not been able to raise his daughter on her mobile phone – had been stabbed 10 times and was found with the knife protruding from her neck.
They believe it was either a crime of passion or a robbery that went wrong. Cahyani’s laptop computer, mobile phone and other possessions were not in her room and are believed to have been stolen.
The family refused a request for an autopsy on the body, which would have established whether any sexual motive was involved.
Cahyani was a health sciences student and was studying in Denpasar.Filed under: Headlines
