Forecasts for week beginning November 6, 2010.

By Jonathan Cainer

Have you ever looked out of the window of a train as it passes another train heading in the same direction? It looks as if that other train is going backwards. That’s the principle behind “retrograde planets.” They don’t really travel in reverse but when it looks as if that’s what they’re doing, some see it as a “bad omen.” Venus, the love planet is currently “retrograde.” Some astrologers seem to think this means that many of us will have to put something we love behind us. Really, though, it more suggests we can bring back a lost love.

SCORPIO (October 24 – November 22)
The recent departure of Mars from your sign plus the imminent absence of Venus and Mercury suggest a release of emotional energy. If you channel it into determination you may move a mountain. But if you let it go into a sense of self-pity, resentment or some other indulgent mood, you’ll go a long way into an unnecessary hole. Strong feelings are wonderful when they motivate us to work hard or to be creative – but when they get us down, it’s best to ignore them. You don’t have to be a prisoner of pessimism or a victim of stress. The cavalry of common sense is riding to your rescue. Just wave it in encouragingly when it arrives!

SAGITTARIUS (November 23 – December 21)
A sprinkling of pepper can turn a bland dish into an exotic preparation. Too much, though, will render it all inedible. Much the same can be said about tension in life’s recipe for happiness. A little adds spice, a lot is too much. Now, why might I be saying all this to you? In essence, there is nothing wrong with the situation you currently face. You need a challenge and you are certainly getting one of those. Change, though, is threatening to start rolling through your world too quickly for comfort. You can’t keep it all away, but through wise choices and restrained actions, you can hold some of it back for a while… and you should.

CAPRICORN (December 22 – January 20)
Have you bitten off more than you can chew? Is your life beginning to resemble a mime or a melodrama? Are there villainous problems – with black hats and evil smirks mercilessly hounding innocent aspirations out of town? Are you being placed under impossible pressure? Are your resources stretched to breaking point? Is your patience strained? Fear not. Help is at hand. Nor is that help coming from a third party. It’s simply you, waking up to a gentle realisation about what truly matters, and then applying long overdue common sense to a silly situation. Saturn will soon help you to settle all that currently seems unstable.

AQUARIUS (January 21 – February 19)
There is something magnetic about you. By this, I don’t just mean your charismatic personality. Charming though you are, your ability to be attractive extends to situations as well as people. Contentious or complicated scenarios home in on you like heat-seeking missiles. They arrive without warning, explode without restraint. Then leave you picking up the pieces, wondering what happened. One such drama is heading your way this week. If you are quick and careful, you should be able to put up a shield in time. If not, just resolve not to take it too seriously. It won’t last long unless you let it turn into a big deal.

PISCES (February 20 – March 20)
When joining a fast-flowing road, it’s never clever to travel too slowly. Once you have identified your gap in the traffic, you need to put your foot to the floor and claim your place in the lane. We can say much the same about the approach you need to take to life in general, this week. Either you need to act with courage and conviction or you need to keep well away from all commitment. Given your impressive astrological advantage, there’s a lot to be said in favour of the bold option. When you see a chance, take it. There’s now a chance to embark on a slightly scary but potentially most rewarding adventure.

ARIES (March 21 – April 20)
Positive stories don’t sell newspapers. We are all mildly interested to hear about people who are doing well, but we are truly fascinated by tales of strife. These, actually, are far more unusual. Journalists have to go and seek them out. But once they been collected and put in one place, they give the impression that the whole world is full of hardship. Our inner editors play similar tricks on us. Our minds run over all the reasons to feel worried. They forget our many blessings and advantages. This week, though, your heavenly headline proclaims, in big bold letters: “Everything Due To Turn Out Fine.” Dull… but true!

TAURUS (April 21 – May 21)
You can’t afford it! Now, before you sigh and say, “I know.” Let me tell what it is that you can’t afford. You can’t afford to waste time worrying. You can’t afford to deprive yourself of something you truly need. You can’t afford to wallow in doubt, guilt or self-denigration. Venus, as it slips back into your sixth solar house this week, speaks of a chance for you to change something that sorely needs changing. The only thing that is really stopping you is yourself. You can’t afford to be that short-sighted if we are talking about an investment, not an indulgence. Don’t make a false economy; make a gesture of faith in your own future.

GEMINI (May 22 – June 22)
Charity, they say, begins at home. Home, they say, is where the heart is. The heart, they say, follows a very different agenda to the head. Your heart needs a little help. It has been struggling to make itself heard above the stern, logical voice of your intellect. It has been listening patiently to all the discussion about where you belong and what you are supposed to be doing. It has heard the argument, but it is not entirely convinced. It wants to feel more love, and experience more simplicity. It wants you not just to think happier thoughts, but to feel happier emotions. Give it what it needs and it will return the favour.

CANCER (June 23 – July 23)
Thankfully, our world is full of people who don’t say what they mean. If this were not the case, there’d be no detectives or psychologists. Who would need them? As things stand, whether we acknowledge it or not, we all require the services of those professionals. So much so that, when we don’t have one to turn to, we play the role ourselves. We look for clues. We analyse carefully what we are being told. In the process, we often make amazing discoveries. Whether the misinformation that you are now encountering is deliberate or not, you are right to notice it and right too, to think you can turn it to your advantage.

LEO (July 24 – August 23)
Let’s enter a fantasy world together, just for a moment. Imagine that you are holding a magic lamp. You have only to rub it gently and a genie will appear. It will do your bidding, regardless of how outrageous the request may be, or how much of an intrusion this makes into others’ lives. OK. Now, what are you going to ask for? Really? Are you SURE? There’s something going on now that you don’t much like – but it contains an element of something essential. Change that and what else might you change? You have more power than you realise this week. Think hard before requesting the wrong type of miracle now.

VIRGO (August 24 – September 23)
What are you now tempted to attempt? They say, “There’s no harm in trying…” That all depends, though, on quite what it is you are trying to do. Attempted crimes, for example, still attract a big sentence. Nor, is it ever a good idea to try someone’s patience. If, this week, you try something there truly is no harm in, you may yet do an awful lot of good. Make an effort. Do all you can to be a healing presence; a kind supportive soul, and an island of wisdom in a sea of insanity. You may, or may not, achieve total success but you will gain a real sense of victory through striving to do the right thing for the right reason.

LIBRA (September 24 – October 23)
Here on planet Earth, people do things that defy explanation and justify these actions by invoking powerful primeval names. We believe that anything is acceptable as long as we can claim that we are acting in the name of art, in the name of progress, in the name of religion, in the name of making money, the name of defence or the name of love! Others may swallow such glib explanations but something in you is no longer willing to trot out the old excuses. This week, there has to be a change. You’ve got to start pursuing only the objectives you can feel completely proud of… and if you do, you’ll have a very pleasing week.
