Pilot’s Wife Bashed to Death
The Indonesian wife of a retired Bali-resident British pilot, David Bulger, was found battered to death in her locked bedroom only hours after she had been chatting and joking with friends on Facebook.
Police said the body of Lusiana Bulger, 46, originally from Jambi in East Java, was found by her house cleaner at 9am last Wednesday when the woman, Sumiyati, broke through the door, which had been locked from inside, and turned on the light. The body was partly under the bed.
“I saw her under the bed with her head covered in blood,” Sumiyati told police.
North Kuta Police believe it may have been a robbery that went wrong, because a mobile phone and a laptop computer were missing when they did an inventory of household equipment.
Sumiyati, who had worked at the house in the Bale Banjar Umasari complex at Kerobokon Kelod for two years, told police she had run to get help from neighbours when she found Mrs Bulger dead.
Police believe she was killed some time in the early hours of Wednesday because she had been chatting on Facebook with two friends, David and Soraya, until 12.15am.
They said Soraya told them she had ended her chat session just after midnight because she was tired, but Mrs Bulger had been her usual self at that time.
“We joked with each other because she was a humorous and playful person,” she said. “But at midnight I said I was off.”
David, the other person in the Facebook chat, told police he had ended the session at 12.15am but Mrs Bulger was still online then.
Detectives and crime-scene police spent four hours at the death house on Wednesday, assisted by the Badung Police identification team.
Badung Police chief detective Soma Adnyana said afterwards they believed in was a robbery-murder. The victim’s body had been heavily bruised and her neck had been broken.
But they believe the killer may have known the house because there was no sign of any forced entry.
The body was taken to Sanglah Hospital for autopsy. Police at last report were awaiting the results.Filed under: Headlines
