Village in Fear Over Mystery Pig With Taste for Money

NEGARA

An invisible pig that is said to appear at night and take money from houses has had villagers at Dusun Jati and other hamlets in Banyubiru, Jembrana, in terror for two weeks. Many of them say they haven’t slept at night since the visitations began.

Rumours of a money-grubbing pig surfaced three months ago but were discounted by most villagers. Now, however, many are reporting they have lost money from their houses at night after hearing “scraping sounds” behind their wall.

Some villagers even claim to have seen the swine-shaped creature.

“We had not previously believed the stories. But lately we started to believe because many people say their money, saved in their house, has disappeared,” one resident said.

Another resident, Ahmad Antoni, said the mystery pig, called Ngepet, now appears nearly every night from around dusk until midnight.

He said a housewife had seen it near her house and had shouted out, bringing other villagers to the scene. And one night the creature had been seen near the rear of the petrol filling station at Banyubiru.

Locals have mounted guard with a variety of weapons but have so far not managed to catch the apparent beast. Residents who are on guard with a wide range of weapons chased after the pig but were unable to catch it, and it leaves no trail to follow.

“We’re not accusing anyone but we believe it exists and roams every night because we see it,” said Antoni.

Villagers are hoping to get help to catch the apparition.

Straight out of Alice in Wonderland or could it be one of William Blake’s contortions? Who knows, maybe when the ‘pig’ is caught it will have two legs.

Heard this kinda mythical stories in Java. It Said that a person who learned sort of black magic and could change his appearance into a pig (babi ngepet) and stole people’s money during the night.

He lit a candle in his house and guarded by either wife or other person to avoid the light faded. The story said, if the light is fading, the person practicing black magic and turned himself into a pig is in great danger and if the candle is calm it means the pig is safe and return home with money he got.

This story spreads from words by mouth and people said they witness this kind of phenomenon, but I think it’s just back to our logic thoughts.

I’m an expad who do business for more then 15 years in Java. I’ve had a big warehouse in Cirebon with rattan production. “EXACTLY” the same story happened at my warehouse. Also a “PIG” came at night and took cash money out from the office, all doors where properly closed. The 3 satpams never noticed the PIG was around.!!!
Then, my Indonesian manager ordered a Dukun (magic man), he came at once and asked us to close the factory for 2 days during that weekend. Only HE (the Dukun) could enter the warehouse, he placed offerings all over the place. Then, finally he said, “that pig will never come back”, we had to pay him 500.000 idr. He also told us the pig can transform into a paper thin creature, then slides UNDER the doors, and could open any kind of lock, even a safe deposit box. Oh my god, what a story.
We changed all door locks, and indeed, that pig never came back.
…>>> Of course “that pig never came back” he didn’t had the proper keys any more…..
The pig ALWAYS has 2 legs… (a human, definitely))
