Child Kidnapped and Raped in Ubud

Police are investigating the kidnap and rape of a 10-year-old girl in Ubud last month, it has been revealed, but the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAID) has criticised the slow pace of progress in the case.

According to Gianyar Police, the girl was picked up by an unidentified man in a car from the road outside her home in Ubud on the afternoon of February 11, blindfolded and taken to a house in an unknown location where she was raped.

Head of KPAID in Bali Dr Sriwahyuni confirmed that the commission had been informed of the case. “We can’t get a great deal of information at the moment because the child is still in a state of shock. She is very traumatised if we try to discuss the incident with her, although she will talk about other matters,” Sriwahyuni said.

Sriwahyuni said that at the time the child was taken her parents had not been in the house, but they had been alarmed when they returned home to find her missing.

“They searched everywhere but couldn’t find her. The following morning the girl managed to find her own way home,” Sriwahyuni said, adding that the child had been treated at Sanglah Hospital in Denpasar following the attack.

According to Sriwahyuni early reports suggested the rape may have been a revenge attack relating to a conflict involving the father of the girl, but Ubud Police, who initially handled the case, had been slow to act, and the matter was only transferred to the main Gianyar Police headquarters on Monday this week.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday Gianyar Police spokesmen Nengah Sumadi confirmed that the case had been handed over.

“We’ve only just received notification of the case from the Ubud Police,” he said.

Expressing frustration with the slow pace of progress, Dr Sriwahyudi said that other child abuse cases in the area had not been solved, citing an earlier case of the rape of a girl with learning difficulties in Tegallalang, where despite local residents identifying a possible suspect no action had been taken by police.

“We really hope the police will take these cases seriously, because if not there will be implications for other children besides the victims,” Sriwahyudi said.

I’ve been trying to find this article for a while, and now that I finally have it’s heart wrenching for me to read. I’m the girl mentioned in this article, and I was wondering if you had any information at all of the kidnapper and if he was convicted or not?? I need this peace of mind. My parents refuse to tell me anything because I’m heavily medicated constantly and in psyche wards every other month, but I NEED to know what really happened to me and this is the only news article that exists about my kidnapping. Please write back to me
