Facebook Comment Sparks Banjar Riot

Two Denpasar banjars that nearly went to war on ogoh-ogoh night just before Nyepi have clashed again — apparently over insulting comments that were posted on Facebook.

No one has been arrested over a riot, road blocks and mass vandalism that occurred last Saturday night during clashes between members of the neighbouring Bhuana Anyar and Kebon Kuri banjars in East Denpasar.

Five homes were damaged in the affray, one of them the house of the Facebook poster, a young Bhuana Anyar man named Dedik who also operates a minimarket.
Bali Police chief Hadiatmoko said this week police preferred to leave the dispute to be settled by the banjars themselves and would invoke appropriate formal law later only if necessary.

Dedik has apologised for his Facebook comment, which characterised members of Kebon Kuri banjar as animals, and removed them.

It’s like you read my own thoughts! You seem to know so much about this, like you wrote the book in it or something. I think that you simply can do with some pics to drive the message home a bit, but other than that, this is exactly great blog site. A great read. I will most certainly be back again.
