Search on for Suspect Bomb Man

Bali Police and the anti-terrorist unit Densus 88 are reported to be looking for a man believed to have brought explosives into Bali by car after eluding security checks at Gilimanuk.

They reportedly named the man as Edi Junianto, from Serak in Magelan, Central Java, and said he was known to have links with a terrorist organisation. He is reported to have been driving a silver Avanza registration number DK 1291 QD.

A source who declined to be named said security had again been tightened at Gilimanuk — Bali’s Java ferry port — and Padang Bai. Bus terminals including Ubung in Denpasar, where buses from Java terminate, were also under increased surveillance, the source said.

Police are said to have information that the car entered Bali despite stringent safeguards; that it carried two suitcases containing explosives; and that Junianto remained at large.

The unnamed source said Bali Police chief Hadiatmoko immediately ordered heightened security measures at key points in Bali and a clampdown on transport terminals.

But Bali Police spokesman Gede Sugianyar said on Sunday he did not know of the incident. “I have to [verify] that information,” he said.
