Forecasts for week beginning April 10, 2011.

By Jonathan Cainer

Mercury is retrograde. According to some, this is bad news. It means messages will go astray, journeys will be delayed and business deals may get cancelled. It’s true that sometimes, all this happens when the communication planet is going backwards. But much depends on what sign Mercury is in and what alignments it is making to other planets. Mercury has lately been forming a positive angle to Jupiter, planet of hope and success. Now, as it retraces its steps through the sky, it repeats that alignment. For us all, especially in these testing times, that’s most auspicious!

ARIES (March 21 – April 20)
Imagine, please, pouring out a nice cup of freshly brewed coffee… into a mug half full with old, cold tea. Or think about painting a lovely picture – on to a stained and grubby canvas. Or what about spraying perfume, to disguise a nasty smell, without first removing the source of the unpleasant odour? OK. Now consider your current situation. Something needs to change. It can change too. But first, a residue from the past needs to be removed. Yet there is a reluctance to do this. Why? An opposition of Mars and Saturn now sends a clear message… Let go. Move on. Be free.

TAURUS (April 21 – May 21)
The denial of pleasure was once a popular pastime. People found great satisfaction in stopping themselves (or others) from doing anything even remotely enjoyable. Egged on by moralists, philosophers, politicians and priests, they set about creating a world in which only the miserable were righteous. We don’t buy into that kind of thing any more, do we? Er, if not, why are you feeling so torn? Is there something bad about your great desire? Perhaps there is. Perhaps you should not be encouraged. But perhaps, too, what’s holding you back is merely misplaced guilt.

GEMINI (May 22 – June 22)
What mistakes are you making? What opportunities are you missing out on? Or might you, actually, be getting everything just about right? What if all that’s wrong is your fear that something is wrong? What if your great plans to change so much are based on the false premise that something needs changing. Maybe it doesn’t. Or maybe it merely needs tweaking, not transforming. Take small steps, this week, before you set about taking big ones. And give them a little chance to work before you decide what you need to do next. You may well need to do very little… other than relax.

CANCER (June 23 – July 23)

You will meet resistance, no matter what you do or decide to do. That, though, is no reason to back down. Explore your imagination. Don’t, though, envisage the worst possible outcome of your current situation. That’s not going to happen. Instead, allow yourself to fantasise about how well things could turn out in the long run if only you were fortunate. Let this vision inspire you and then have faith in the direction that you feel most strongly inclined to follow. Tense times lie ahead but these also promise the chance to make much-needed, permanent, progress.

LEO (July 24 – August 23)

For all our sophistication and intelligence, all we ever really want is a little love, warmth, support and amusement. We dress up these needs in complicated disguises and create a set of precise preconditions about what we will or won’t accept. Then we wonder why we feel so unfulfilled. Don’t hold on too tightly to an overly specific idea about what you must and must not have – or what you do and don’t want to happen or who can or cannot help you. You need to open your mind to a new idea. There IS a way to find the happiness you need, but it is not necessarily the way you think.

VIRGO (August 24 – September 23)
What matters more than anything? Be careful how you answer. Our lives are full of purportedly crucial arrangements. We are forever rearranging the cards in our pack of priorities. You are good at putting things in order. You are not always, though, so good at recognising items that do not even need to be on your agenda. How much energy are you investing in an issue that someone else considers important? Deal with it by all means but limit the amount of time it takes. You’ve got your own fish to fry and some have the potential to provide you with a very satisfying supper.

LIBRA (September 24 – October 23)
It isn’t always easy to look on the bright side. The bright side changes depending on where you happen to be and even what time it is. Think of how the Sun rises and sets. In the morning the bright side is over in the east. By dusk you need to look west if you want to see something shining. And after nightfall? You either have to take your chances with the Moon – or wait patiently until a new day dawns. Various factors now seem to be conspiring to obscure your view. You find it hard to believe that anything good can come from a seemingly unacceptable situation. But you will be pleasantly surprised.

SCORPIO (October 24 – November 22)

“Conscience does make cowards of us all… The native hue of resolution is sicklied o’er with the pale cast of thought.” These words, from Shakespeare’s Hamlet, apply just as well to all ideas which we can talk ourselves out of if we really stop to think them through. There are moments when passion should be honoured with an unfettered reign at the helm of our lives, lest we start to lead an entirely dry and dull existence. Sometimes, though… well… look. I think you know why I’m saying all this. Better by far to be confused for a while this week, than to be deluded!

SAGITTARIUS (November 23 – December)

Who are you? By this, I don’t mean who are you pretending to be? Nor where do you live, what are you doing with your time or who do you have an important emotional connection to. Never mind who you think you ought to be or who you have been at various points in the past. The question is, who are you, really? What are you truly capable of? What makes you special? What great power lies hidden in your heart? What can you surprise yourself – and the whole world – by achieving? I ask for a reason. If you keep asking yourself the same questions, you’ll get an answer that changes everything.

CAPRICORN (December 22 – January 20)
Stand to attention while I’m talking to you please. Now, when I tell you to start marching… Hey, don’t pull that face. I know you don’t like receiving orders but you are not averse to giving them from time to time, are you? This week’s big challenge has something to do with two contradictory demands that you appear to have made upon a certain person – or situation. You have issued instructions. You have declared intentions. You have also, though, created a dichotomy. It must be resolved, rapidly. As long as you are reasonable, this can all happen amicably and profitably.

AQUARIUS (January 21 – February 19)
You have been avoiding a conversation for some while. You fear that someone isn’t going to like what you have to say. You also suspect that they won’t appreciate the point you need to communicate. You don’t really know this, though; you are just working on the basis of an assumption. Ironically, the other person is doing much the same. That’s why, they too, are avoiding opportunity for dialogue. When the two of you finally talk, you’ll both discover that you have much more common-ground than you realise. There’s a cosmic promise of a very fruitful exchange this week.

PISCES (February 20 – March 20)
Think of yourself as a magician. Not an illusionist but a fully-fledged practitioner of esoteric arts. A manifester. A levitator. A shape-shifter and a spell-caster. You have no need of a wand. You can merely stretch out your fingers and bolts of blue lightning crackle as they shoot towards their target, no matter where in the world that may be. Are other magicians more powerful? No. You may have equals but you have no betters. Now, you may wonder, what’s the point of all this? Really, you do not have such powers? Ah, but you do. This week, at least, you can change something crucial!
