Forecasts for week beginning April 17, 2011.

By Jonathan Cainer

Do you feel as if you’re shouting at the top of your voice but you’re sounding like a whisper on the wind? Does it seem as if the world is full of ridiculous rules, petty protocols and ludicrous laws? Are strong emotions creating too much conflict for comfort? No matter what sign you are, there will be a flavour of all that frustration in what you encounter this week. We’ve still got a stationary Mercury. Mars and Saturn are completing their opposition. And there’s a Full Moon. But the good news is, all that pressure will soon ease off.

ARIES (March 21 – April 20)
Remember the days of photographic film? Remember negatives? If you didn’t have one, you couldn’t make a positive print. Let that be your inspiration this week. You seem to be dealing with a situation in which almost everything is the opposite of the way you want it to be. You can see that something makes no sense but to everyone else, apparently, it’s OK. You have to be patient, imaginative and restrained. Well, actually, you don’t have to. You can express yourself in a host of impassioned and illogical ways, if you prefer. But if it’s a result you are after, you just have to stay calm.

TAURUS (April 21 – May 21)
Use your imagination. Summon your creativity. Think like a designer, an artist or an inventor. You may not have what you want but you have the wherewithal to manufacture it. The components are accessible. The ingredients are within reach. All you need is the right recipe and then enough dedication to follow it through. That may require hard work but the result will satisfy you far more than any tailor-made solution ever could. Once you find your inspiration there will be no stopping you. No matter what seems difficult you will yet find a successful way to get round it.

GEMINI (May 22 – June 22)
Every so often, things have to work out well. Not because we have been particularly clever or earned merit points in the eyes of some ever-diligent deity. Just because things go so badly most of the time, that if we didn’t have a rare moment of triumph to compare them to, we would have no awareness of how life could be better. Thus, we would feel less disappointed and life would lose some of its ability to frustrate us. So we have to be given at least an occasional taste of something good! How good will things be for you this week? Surprisingly so, if you allow them to be.

CANCER (June 23 – July 23)
What are you waiting for? Why are you still waiting for it? Do you not really want it? Or is it the end result of a process that it is impossible for you to influence? Have you done all you can? Are you quite sure that, secretly, deep down, you do not harbour doubts and misgivings that are causing you and your objective to remain uncomfortably apart? Scrutinise your own psyche, just in case your head and heart are engaged in a counter-productive opposition. Then focus on what you can be absolutely sure you need to change. Somehow, you can make it happen.

LEO (July 24 – August 23)
You may or may not like the path you have taken through history to arrive at this moment – but at least, when you look back, you can see that path in your memory as a solid, obvious route. Hindsight makes everything seem definite. When all the what-ifs have been debated, one fact remains: what’s done is done. The pathway to the future, by contrast, is always bound to look much more like a wobbly tightrope hanging over a windy canyon. But there is now a strong sense of destiny in your life. Something simply has to happen soon. Something good – and long overdue.

VIRGO (August 24 – September 23)
It is not that you like to do things the hard way; it is just that too often, the hard way turns out to be the only way. You keep finding this so you have subtly attuned your personality towards an acceptance of hardship. If you are going to have to keep on struggling, you may as well find some way to enjoy the process. This mechanism of self-protection is laudable and useful but it has one drawback. It means that when, as now, you have a genuine chance to do things the easy way for a change, you do not always take it. But this week, nothing needs to be difficult.

LIBRA (September 24 – October 23)
Put your head below the parapet and keep it there. If you want to know whether the coast is clear send out a decoy and watch carefully to see what happens to it. Work on the assumption, that you will not resolve a stressful issue, regardless of what you do or say. But the more you rise to the bait of a conflict the more impaled you will become on the hook of contention. So do not engage. Be neutral. You need not be in a hurry. Do not be swayed by how urgent a certain situation is starting to seem. Soon enough, a highly supportive arm will be extended in your direction.

SCORPIO (October 24 – November 22)
We can’t always be sure who our friends are. Some folks treat us nicely because they want something from us. Others can be rude and deliberately set out to challenge us, just because they care. Friends take liberties that enemies would never contemplate. Friends don’t always do us favours. But who are our worst enemies? The folk who used to be our friends. This week’s events oblige you to redefine your involvement with someone with whom you would once co-operate without question. It may, or may not, need to change; it certainly needs to be thought about.

SAGITTARIUS (November 23 – December)
It is beginning to get a little crazy but, where normally you manage to take insanity in your stride, you are currently stumbling over it. You can see the likely consequences of a plan of action. Others are not so far-sighted. You sorely yearn to save someone from the implications of their own stupidity. Sadly, there is a limit to what you can do. Make every effort that you reasonably can – but do not compromise the safety of your own position. Some people, it would seem, like having problems. You won’t necessarily make them happy, if you try to make them happy.

CAPRICORN (December 22 – January 20)
Why does there seem to be such a shortage of the thing you need most, yet such a surplus of the one factor that you would gladly do without? Is there no way to reverse the situation? There is… but not quite in the way you might imagine. Mars and Saturn’s opposition suggests you have to put up with an imbalance. What if you can manage not just to accept an undesirable situation but to embrace, appreciate, even enjoy it? Then, you can take what’s ostensibly so frustrating and disappointing and turn it into something useful that leads to what you really need.

AQUARIUS (January 21 – February 19)
Afro hairdos. Chest wigs. Wide collars. Gold medallions. Stack-heeled shoes. Hot pants. Flares. Ah, the Seventies. Surely, they are due for a revival any day soon? Probably not. This may well turn out to be the decade that time couldn’t wait to forget. An era of fashion faux pas that you only ever make once. You look far too young to remember! But imagine. And now imagine staying stuck in that time, refusing to move on! Where, in your life now, are you compounding an error by insisting that no mistake has been made? Mars and Saturn say it’s time for a new agenda.

PISCES (February 20 – March 20)
We understand little about who we really are and what we are doing here. Even the information we can be sure of, we cannot comprehend. We know, for example, that we are not here forever. We do not find this comforting, so we prefer not to think about it. We banish the idea and talk instead about aesthetics, sandwiches or politics. Or the weather. Or the local geography. Then suddenly, we get a reminder. It unnerves us. It also, though, does us the power of good. This week’s reality check should clear your life of clutter and give you a profound, positive focus.
