Shopkeeper Slashed in Knife Attack
DENPASAR
Police are hunting an unidentified man who attacked a Denpasar shopkeeper at her store on Jl Letda Sutji, last Thursday, slashing her face with a knife.
Ratna Kurniawati, 48, whose husband is a serving police officer, was attacked as she was minding the Adi Kurnia Jaya Store, which she owns, on May 19, causing serious face and head injuries, before fleeing by motorbike.
I Gusti Nyoman Wintara, head of East Denpasar Police, said that the attack was still under investigation, and that they had not yet been able to identify the attacker or his motive.
“There are three witnesses we are talking two – a maid, a neighbour and a local resident,” Wintara said.
“From the witnesses’ information the attacker drove a Yamaha Jupiter motorbike with a license number starting DK8,” he said.
Winatara said that police had so far been unable to interview Kurniawati because she was still seriously ill in Denpasar’s main Sanglah Hospital undergoing treatment.
“The victim is now conscious, but she’s not yet stable enough to be questioned,” he said.
