Forecasts for week beginning, October 15, 2011.

By Jonathan Cainer

Babies born this week will be Librans – but, depending on the day they enter the world, they may have the Moon in Gemini, Cancer or Leo. All week long, our new arrivals will gain the influence of both Venus and Mercury in Scorpio. So will they be typical Librans? Actually, nobody is ever truly typical of their sign. Our ‘sun sign’ describes our outward personality… but we have each of the 12 signs in our psychological make-up somewhere. This week’s little Librans, for example, will be a little more intense and ‘Scorpionic’ when it comes to expressing themselves.

ARIES (March 21 – April 20)
Some people put a big sign on their door saying, ‘Beware of the dog’. When you get close you discover that the dog in question is not some wolf-beast, but a poodle. Most of us have a bark that is worse than our bite. You have lately spent time and energy worrying about some enormous monster with ferocious fangs. You have, indeed, seen a warning but you have overreacted to it. Neither a person, nor a situation, is as ferocious as you fear. As you receive reassurance, you begin to adjust to life without a sense of menace in the background.

TAURUS (April 21 – May 21)
Are you lucky or unlucky? That’s not the question. Try asking whether something is wise or unwise. We can’t always know. Sometimes we do things that seem silly yet which turn out sensible. Sometimes a voice of caution prevents us from pursuing an essential impulse. If any of us really knew where luck was sure to come from, we could manipulate this to our advantage and enjoy endless success. But we can, at least, identify the ideas least likely to be wise… or lucky. All you need, this week, is discrimination. The luck you need, you already have.

GEMINI (May 22 – June 22)
Do you feel as if you are on trial – facing awkward questions from antagonistic inquisitors? If so, count yourself lucky. Many Geminis are under the scrutiny of an even less forgiving examiner. This one lives in the back of the mirror and will absolutely not be fobbed off with clever excuses. A story is being conveniently retold for public consumption with key facts omitted. You know this and need to get at the truth. Don’t be harsh on yourself. But do try to find out why a silly situation has come about. Once you understand that, you can be free of it forever.

CANCER (June 23 – July 23)
Remember how things used to be? Why can’t they be like that any more? Because, no matter how much you may claim to hanker for a repeat, things have moved on. When we pine for the past, we confuse the experience we had with the events that triggered it. Imagine being hungry and dreaming of a dinner you ate some years ago. You don’t want THAT dinner. Even if there’s any left, it has long since rotted! You want something similar, freshly cooked. If it is new, though, it will be different. Be inspired by the past, but don’t be a slave to it.

LEO (July 24 – August 23)
Does someone object to your objective? Are you pursuing a controversial goal? To some extent, this cannot be helped. No matter what you choose, someone will feel you are making the wrong choice. You need, somehow, to be both determined and different. There’s no point in getting into an argument if it can be avoided. At the same time, though, you have to be true to the vision and the principle that now mean so much to you. The Sun’s opposition to Neptune suggests that a rare opportunity awaits you. But to seize it you must be bold.

VIRGO (August 24 – September 23)
The uncertainty and vagueness of the last few weeks is over, even if the future is not completely clear to you yet. You can begin to put down new roots and foundations now with a greater degree of security than has been the case recently, but don’t rush or jump in head first! Take your time, do things steadily and properly – and then you’ll be glad you did. Woolly-eyed romanticism is fine for superficial circumstances, but the essence of romance is still being distilled within you, and the final results won’t become clear for a few days yet. Take your time.

LIBRA (September 24 – October 23)
Is that a pea under your mattress? Actually, it is an entire cannery. It is almost as if combine-harvesters keep driving beneath your bedclothes and depositing their contents in the shell-shredder. How are you supposed to rest easy with this much annoyance? On top of which, people keep telling you that it is no big deal and you ought to be able to rise above it. That, on its own, is seriously beginning to irk you. Would you like some good news? Soon, you will both be feeling a lot less sensitive and you will have far less aggravation to react to.

SCORPIO (October 24 – November 22)
The course of true love rarely runs smooth. This is why, in the marriage ceremony, they have that bit about ‘for better or worse’. They do not say, though, how much worse or for how long. Presumably, if we want it to be as good as it can get, we have to be willing to take it as tough as it becomes. But that’s much easier in theory than in practice. A key relationship has been difficult of late. This may or may not be a relationship with a person. We may be talking about your relationship with a situation. Whatever it is, though, it is about to get better.

SAGITTARIUS (November 23 – December 21)
You know exactly what it is that you must do. You know too, how important it is that you are successful. There really is no margin for error. Or so you feel. Actually, there’s greater tolerance than you imagine. You don’t have to get everything exactly right. You aren’t obliged to achieve the impossible. You only have to do what’s feasible. And if it’s feasible, what’s the problem? The worst it can be is difficult. Don’t ignore your own better judgement. Do what you know to be right, not what someone else considers appropriate or desirable.

CAPRICORN (December 22 – January 20)
Do you simply have to put up with what you do not like? Only up to a point. You have the power – and the opportunity – to bring about sweeping change now. But do you secretly prefer things the way they are? Do you fear that, if you turn everything upside down, you will end up even worse off? Don’t be reckless, don’t be rash, but do be ready to trust the good idea that is starting to emerge. There is a clever solution to your current problem. You are more than intelligent enough to find it. Gradually, this week, a battling situation will start to make sense.

AQUARIUS (January 21 – February 19)
Books and covers. Destinations and journeys. Meals and ingredients. Plays and actors. In each case, we imagine we can tell something about the former, from looking at the latter. Sometimes we can. Often, though, we miss a great deal if we jump to our conclusion too quickly. Of course, we have to be careful. If we don’t use our eyes and ears, if we don’t draw on our experiences, we may end up going round in circles forever. This week, though, something seemingly obvious is not obvious at all. Go beyond the superficial and think deeply.

PISCES (February 20 – March 20)
Here comes a new idea. It involves revisiting an old idea. It probably requires a degree of humility – for you will have to accept something you once rejected. It will certainly involve faith… for you cannot be sure that the idea will work. All other ideas, though, surrounding one particular matter are not working and you do need to progress. So, as you now have an idea about why an idea did not work last time, what harm can it do to try that old idea again in a new way? The Sun’s trine to Neptune suggests that it’s got to be worth a try.
