Forecasts for week beginning January 15, 2011.
By Jonathan Cainer
Venus moves into a new sector of the sky this week, moving slowly towards a position from which she will oppose Mars. That should bring the end of some New Year’s resolutions. Many got abandoned before the confetti was hoovered up! Others have had more staying power so far. But this week, the warhorse of your willpower may become a bit of a bucking bronco. Hang on tight. Next week will see you sitting more securely in the saddle – and, if you can only wait till the middle of next month, you’ll be cantering comfortably.
ARIES (March 21 – April 20)
You know those magazine articles that promise to help create, ‘A Whole New You’? Some people when they see them, shrug their shoulders and say, ‘Pah, I quite like the old me, thanks.’ Others flick quickly to find out how to change their life for the better with a simple haircut and a cheap wardrobe accessory. But, actually, there is now a chance to discover ‘A Whole New You’. It’s not a question of changing the way you look to the world; it’s a matter of altering the way the world looks to you. You will soon see much from a far better perspective.
TAURUS (April 21 – May 21)
Can anyone really be in two places at once? Some people think so! They speak seriously about astral travel or cloning themselves – or, less imaginatively but more practically, organising their time better. Conflicting demands are being made on you. Mutually incompatible needs are arising. If you are going to keep everyone happy, including yourself, you will need to be pretty smart. Which, of course, you are! So that’s OK. Just remember to think on your feet this weekend – and before you try the wildly impossible, think harder about the obvious.
GEMINI (May 22 – June 22)
Stay or go? Accept or object? Believe or mistrust? Go wild or play safe? All these options are flawed. All have repercussions and implications. We can sit and think about these forever, but should we think or should we act? Right now, you are beginning to feel a little overwhelmed. The year has only just begun and already you feel that you have to make a difficult choice. But, actually, you don’t. The choice is due to be made for you by various factors beyond your control. It will be the best possible choice and it will help you to feel a lot better.
CANCER (June 23 – July 23)
When we use the word sensitive, we tend to conjure up an image of something or someone very fragile. We paint a somewhat flowery pastel picture. True sensitivity is neither weak nor effete. Your celestial circumstances are not asking you to be wishy-washy or namby-pamby, they are merely urging you to be aware of a delicate, difficult, situation. It demands and deserves tolerance and awareness. There is a point past which you cannot safely go. To recognise as much this week is to demonstrate strength and wisdom – not cowardice.
LEO (July 24 – August 23)
As someone with famously high standards, you believe that if a job is worth doing… it is worth doing brilliantly. That doesn’t necessarily mean that the task must be undertaken in some spectacular fashion. The cleverest moves of all are often those that are made with quiet confidence. Subtle understatement can be much more effective than drama and noise. To set the year off in style, you are now being given a chance to do something to the best of your ability. Give it all you’ve got and it will give you, in turn, a sense of lasting reassurance.
VIRGO (August 24 – September 23)
How would you like your luck to change? Think carefully. No matter how fed up you may be about one situation, there is another that is perfect and precious. If an improvement in one area were to cause a deterioration in that other special part of your world, it would hardly be worth it. So we need to make sure that you gain on the swings this week and don’t lose on the roundabouts. That’s feasible. But it requires you to apply a little trust and discrimination. You may not need to seize the first opportunity this week; it may be better to wait for the second.
LIBRA (September 24 – October 23)
The world of confectionery has changed. These days, you can get chocolates laced with chilli, and candies so sour that they make you purse your lips when you taste them. People, it seems, have come to accept that even the greatest pleasures can turn out to be bittersweet. Sometimes, even in joy there is sadness and sometimes, even in the deepest sorrow there is a touch of goodness and grace. I cannot promise that every wonderful development in your future will be free of this double edge. But I can tell you that, this week, what’s lovely is truly lovely.
SCORPIO (October 24 – November 22)
Stalactites take thousands of years to form. Drip by drip they gradually come into place. It takes them only slightly less time to develop in their underground caves than it takes to get through to a certain person or change a silly situation. At least, though, the stalactites don’t hold forth any pretence of being intelligent. Both processes teach us something about patience. Now, here’s your good news. Though you are still obliged to wait for a key event to occur, you won’t be waiting THAT long. Try to give a difficult situation just a little more time.
SAGITTARIUS (November 23 – December 21)
You are entitled to your dream. You are also entitled to the chance to try to make your dream come true. You may not want to do this. You may decide that your dream is providing you with a very comfortable escape mechanism. Were it to become a reality, it might also become a liability. But that is a choice for you to make. And it should be made through discrimination, not defeatism. Events this week offer you an opportunity to pursue your dream. Don’t be too scared to take this. A solution to one of your biggest problems is really far more than fantasy.
CAPRICORN (December 22 – January 20)
People say the strangest things – and they make the most peculiar promises. They will swear blind that black is white or the moon is made of green cheese. Rarely do they do this out of spite or cunning. Almost invariably, they do it out of a misplaced sense of profound belief – thus proving the old assertion that, to become a great persuader, you must first master the art of self-deception. Sadly, though, this means we all have to be very careful about who we listen to. Err on the side of caution this week, but do not err on the side of pessimism.
AQUARIUS (January 21 – February 19)
We interrupt this forecast to bring you an announcement. Whilst scientists grow closer to the discovery of the elusive Higgs Boson, spiritual teachers and philosophers have been holding a conference in an attempt to pin down the ultimate answer to the ultimate question: ‘What is the purpose of life?’ They have just announced their conclusion. ‘We are here so that we can sit around, endlessly wondering why we are here!’ Just thought you would like to know that. Your outlook is excellent as long as you don’t ask difficult questions.
PISCES (February 20 – March 20)
Isn’t it about time the Sun shone more brightly in your life? I’m not talking about the one in the sky. Heaven knows, there are plenty of happy people who live in grey places and many miserable folk who wake up each morning to a beautiful blue sky. When, though, we feel that everything is overcast in our heart, it can sometimes seem very difficult to let anything pierce the gloom. This week, I need to tell you that you have some control over your own inner weather system. Make some effort to blow away a cloud and all will rapidly brighten in your world.
