Forecasts for week beginning February 25, 2012.
By Jonathan Cainer
Why do people say, ‘Many happy returns’ on your birthday? It is an old astrological phrase. Once a year, every year, around your birthday, the Sun returns to the same part of the zodiac that it occupied at the time you were born. An astrologer has to do some fairly complicated sums to work out the exact moment – and for people born this week, those calculations get a little trickier. But though February 29 babies don’t, sadly, age four times slower than the rest of us, they can rest assured that they get a real solar return every year!
ARIES (March 21 – April 20)
Both Venus and Uranus remain in Aries. That’s good for your love life and your ability to innovate. To have planets in your sign is a bit like having nice chairs in your room. But if you are in a great mood, you could sit on a box and be happy. While if you feel fed-up, the most luxurious sofa won’t help. To find the real story, we must look at Mars, the planet that rules your sign – currently retrograde and edging towards a sharp alignment with Saturn. You are getting frustrated by a slow process. This will pass. Meanwhile, make the most of what’s good.
TAURUS (April 21 – May 21)
Silence is golden. Ignorance is bliss. When ostriches bury their heads in the sand, it stops the wind from whistling round their ears and ensures that if they must encounter something awkward, they at least meet it with the part of their anatomy that is most capable of cushioning them from a painful impact. I am not seriously suggesting you cover your eyes this week, nor do I propose that you simply wave your backside in the general direction of an approaching problem. But if you are going to look at anything, look at something that inspires you.
GEMINI (May 22 – June 22)
‘Come on baby, let the good times roll…’ So goes the old song. But can we really just do that? Don’t we need a licence? And what about a health and safety certificate to prove that those good times are properly ready to roll in all weathers? Or, to put it another way, something now seems to be standing in the way of your spontaneity. In theory, you just have to reach for what inspires you. In practice, you are dealing with a whole load of obstacles and objections. But your enthusiasm is priceless and much more powerful than you may yet realise.
CANCER (June 23 – July 23)
You can’t have it all your own way. This is partly because you are not always sure what your own way actually is. But then isn’t it better to be experiencing the right kind of doubt than the wrong sort of certainty? Some people try to make everything go their way by employing a simple psychological trick. They just resolve to learn to like whatever is happening, so much so, that they decide it is ‘just what they want’, regardless of what it may be. If nothing else, this week, you know what it is that you don’t want. Make that your starting point.
LEO (July 24 – August 23)
Many people seem to think that the gap between success and failure is as wide as the Grand Canyon. But actually, it is a hairline crack. No matter how careful you try to be, some factors will always come down to ‘luck of the draw’. You can be within an inch of triumph yet end up in terrible trouble or you can fall over the edge of an abyss yet discover that a parachute has sprung forth from your back and allowed you to land lightly on your feet. A miss is as good as a mile, but a victory, no matter how narrowly attained, still counts as a win. You will be fine this week.
VIRGO (August 24 – September 23)
‘When the going gets tough, the tough get going.’ Or so they say. So, what about the weak? What do they do when the going gets tough? They get going even faster! And they pretend to be tough; it makes them feel better. But the truly tough don’t need to prove themselves. Indeed, sometimes, when the going gets tough, the toughest of them all, do nothing. Nothing may well be the most appropriate thing to do. It may also be appropriate for them to swallow their pride and ask for help. The truly tough are not too tough to do that. Be tough this week.
LIBRA (September 24 – October 23)
What are you looking for? Where do you hope to find it? What makes you feel that that is such a smart place to search? The world is full of lost items. Misplaced possessions. Questions that seemingly have no answer. Wherever people are endlessly hunting without success, it can only be for one of two reasons. Either, somehow, they are overlooking the obvious or they are restricting themselves to the territory where they expect to track down their quarry. Try to cast you net wider this week, and you will yet manage to find what you most sincerely seek.
SCORPIO (October 24 – November 22)
Sometimes you are just too sensitive. You pick up too much. You notice more than you need to. You can so easily identify with other people’s fears and feelings that you end up forgetting where you end and they begin. You take on more than you should. Right now you feel great compassion for someone. This is colouring your judgement to the point where you are willing to forgive a transgression. Forgive by all means but don’t forget. You are entitled to a better life. You will get one if you work to keep your heart soft while your mind remains sharp.
SAGITTARIUS (November 23 – December 21)
Whenever you face a great challenge, there is always an easy way to tackle it. Just break it down into a series of smaller problems. Something is confusing you now. You feel intimidated by a situation that keeps becoming more complicated the more you think about it. Reduce it to a set of component parts and stop worrying about what it all means – or may come to mean one day. What is now causing you to become far too anxious? It is just a daunting emotional fear. You are bigger than this; don’t let it begin to seem bigger than you!
CAPRICORN (December 22 – January 20)
Many great philosophers have noticed the strange symbiotic relationship between pain and pleasure, love and hate, happiness and sadness. It is as if these opposing experiences represent two sides of one coin. With this in mind, we must look at your current cause of consternation. The very thing that is worrying you most, is potentially offering you the greatest scope for satisfaction. Even the economic issue that you are wrestling with now could become the route to greater solvency. Just try to see the other side of a situation.
AQUARIUS (January 21 – February 19)
Some people believe we will all be judged when we die. Those who have been ‘good’ will go to heaven. Those who have not will go to hell. This idea is old. Why is it still so popular? Maybe because our usual social system of reward and punishment often seems unjust. Perhaps, we assume that any imbalance in this world will be rectified in the next. You may now wonder why you ever bother trying to do the right thing when it only ever seems to bring the wrong result. Don’t judge yourself too harshly. A demanding process will yet have a very fair outcome.
PISCES (February 20 – March 20)
Think of all the books in all the libraries in all the world. Think of all the words in all those books. Now think of all the letters of the alphabet that those words contain. Funny, isn’t it, how so much boils down to so little. In your life now a lot is being made out of something seemingly small. That happens quite often, so you can be forgiven for feeling a little cynical. A certain person may well turn out to be ‘all talk’. A particular situation may well not prove as pressing as it at first appeared. At first sight, this week, a situation looks complicated. But in essence, it is simple.
