Feng Shui and Holistic Healing

By S.BS. Surendran

Everything that exists is permeated by a universal energy that connects and nourishes all of life. This energy has been called by many different names, such as chi and prana. When the flow of energy in the energy or auric field becomes blocked or fragmented, it prevents the living person from achieving harmony and the pure connection to a higher spiritual reality, which in turn prevents the full and healthy expression of the living potential.

Energy-field healing is the art of correcting defects in the energy field and restoring the balance.

Past traumas, emotional hurts and physical dis-ease can lead to the fragmentation of the spirit. Every time we experience pain, whether it is physical, emotional or spiritual, our energy field becomes disrupted. When we meet someone for the first time, we usually cannot see their flaws. These flaws or fragmented spirits become apparent over time, as the relationship continues. Of course, flaws are not bad; we all have them.

According to feng shui, our whole existence is determined by the five elements present in our environment as well as our bodies. The five elements in the science of feng shui are Earth, Water, Fire, Wood and Metal. It is said that these five elements have to be balanced equally in order for us to experience good health. Any imbalance of the elements in a home or within the human body is said to cause “pathos” or ailments. The ailments can be physical, emotional or even inspirational. The Earth element is present in the mind and this acts as a grounding point for all experiences in our life.

Feng shui perceives the body as a psychophysical system consisting of a dynamic network of channels. These points are what we call the charkas or energy centres. These centres are the source of specific activities and they control various aspects of our day-to-day life. In oriental medicine, there is no such thing as an isolated illness as the energy centres are interconnected and control the entire human body and the systems. The mingling of both physical and psychological factors causes disturbances of the body’s inner elemental harmony; hence, one can say that what affects the mind affects the body, and vice-versa.

When all five elements are balanced within the body, the body is healthy and happy. For example, an excess of Metal energy in your environment will depress you and an excess of Fire energy in your body will cause illness, aggressiveness, make you lose your temper and disturb your sleeping pattern.

Adapting crystals for healing has been found to be the easiest and most reliable approach to restoring the imbalance. Crystal represents the Earth element and has the power to radiate the required energy field in and around a person. Crystal healing is the process of harmonising and integrating the changes into your whole being. You may notice physical and emotional changes as your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual apects come into alignment. Some of these changes are caused by throwing off toxins and negative energies from the cleansing process which continues throughout the cycle of healing.

You can suspend crystals or wear them as a necklace or bracelet. Placing crystal gem trees or suspending crystals in specific areas of the home aids the process of healing of not just the place of dwelling but its occupants too. Your commitment to the crystal is part of the healing process, and choosing the right crystal is vital.

Once the crystal has been chosen, let it do the work for you, but ensure that you keep the crystals clean by cleansing them periodically with seawater and exposing them to the early morning sun to absorb the yang energy. Crystals are “hygroscopic” and they need to be cleansed regularly to keep them vibrant and supportive. It’s best not to wear more than two stones at any one time if you are new to crystal healing, as many people find the effects distracting and they can in turn cause more disturbances.

The length of time to obtain the effects desired will depend on the quality of the crystal, size, colour and energy charge. Give it time to work and you will gradually feel the change within you.
