Iranian Leaps from Plane

An Iranian man forced open a cabin door and leapt from a plane moments after it touched down at Ngurah Rai International Airport on Sunday.

The man, named as Foroughin Monteza Baratali, was aboard a Qatar Airways flight from Doha via Singapore.

He leapt from the plane before it had reached the terminal and suffered a number of broken bones during his fall.

He was taken to the International Medical Centre in Kuta and placed under guard.

According to Wayan Sudana, head of immigration at Ngurah Rai, Baratali is believed to have been trying to avoid immigration because his name is listed on an international travel-ban list.

“We’re still investigating what crime he committed to be put on the travel ban list,” he said, adding that Baratali would be deported once he had finished treatment.

The incident lead to minor delays at the airport.
