German and Spaniard Held over Drugs
DENPASAR
The police have arrested a German and a Spanish man in separate operations for alleged possession of banned drugs.
Peter Hasslinger of Germany was arrested in Sanur last Friday. A spokeswoman for the Bali Police said officers found marijuana amounting to 159.84 grams in a house there that the 45-year-old had been renting.
The suspect told the police that he bought the drug on the neighbouring island of Lombok, the spokeswoman, Sri Harmiti, said on Wednesday.
On Saturday, David Camblor of Spain was detained after the police found 0.44 grams of crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as ice, at a residence he was staying at in Kerobokan, North Kuta.
The pair, who Harmiti said did not know each other, join a sizeable list of foreigners arrested for drugs in Bali in recent years, with many of them subsequently sentenced to long stretches in jail. Two, Australians, are on death row.
