Bullying Triggers Inter-School Students Brawl

JAKARTA

The Executive Board chairman of the Indonesian mosques council Jusuf Kalla who is also former Indonesian vice president said bullying acts committed by students at schools may lead to inter-school students brawls.

“Violence stems from bullying actions which initially occurs among schoolmates, but it subsequently spreads into inter-schools,” Kalla, who is concurrently chairman of the Indonesian Red Cross agency (PMI) said here on Friday.

Commenting on the recent brawls which frequently occurred in Jakarta, Kalla said all schools should apply good education system.

“The good education system is not only aimed at regulating the students during their stay in schools but also outside the schools,” Kalla explained.

Teachers also have authority to impose sanctions against students who committed violence out side the schools, he noted.

Two students were killed during brawls in Jakarta recently.

On Monday (Sept 24), a student was killed during a brawl between State Senior High School 6 Bulungan and State Senior High School 70.

“The victim`s name is Denny Januar, a third-year student at Yake Vocational High School. He died after being hit by a sharp weapon,” Tebet Police Precinct Spokesman Broto Suwarno said.

In addition, another student also died after a brawl between Yake Vocational High School and Kartika Zeni Vocational High School students, which took place near Jalan Sahardjo, Tebet, South Jakarta, on Wednesday.

That students from Yake and Kartika Zeni schools had engaged in violent fights several times before.

Meanwhile, so far the South Jakarta police have arrested a suspect in the death of a senior high school student during a recent inter-school brawl between students in Blok M area.
