A Russian Prisoner Sentenced to Eight Years
Alexander Simonov (30), a Russian citizen and yoga teacher is sentenced to prison for eight years for proven guilty of smuggling nearly a pound hashish. He has swallowed hashish capsules and stored it in his stomach.
The customs officials of Ngurah Rai arrested Alexander Simonov at the international arrival terminal on the 24th of April 2012.
Russian citizens arrived at Ngurah Rai Airport after traveling from India to Denpasar through Kuala Lumpur using Malaysia Airlines.
At the beginning of the examination the customs officials couldn’t find any suspicious objects. After an X-ray scan, they detected hashish capsules in his stomach. At the hospital Simonov refused to remove objects from his stomach.
Officers and medical personnel hospital had thought to remove it by surgery. Eventually he changes his mind and was willing to cooperate. After a process of six days, they found 88 capsules containing hashish weighing 915 grams.
A few things that incriminate the defendant are his actions of damaging the image of the island . Bali is a destination for international tourism. Simonov is proven guilty of importing narcotics.
The sentence is three years shorter, which should be 11 years in prison. In response to this ruling, Simonov took it and did not appeal to its verdict.Filed under: Headlines
